O I luv the balloons in fall. This year I had rust foliage and unfrosted white flowers on one. Did I take a pic? Duh! Not!

Edit: Sharon I can relate with the brussel sprout thing. I hyperventilate around them. I don't think understand why they were invented. Verrrrry scarey. Should be a Hallowe'en thing.

This is the mountain ash berry. The bush grows wild in the yard of my friend whom I spent time with in Alaska. That was in June, and at the time it was merely green, full, and full of grosbeaks that would flit around me to get from one to the other. Now she sends me this and makes me want to go back to AK, but the snows have already fallen, and their high is 25.

I would freeze for sure.

Don't think I took a bloom photo either, dahlia, but did manage to catch the fall color. I have both white and dark purple. Both very old plants

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have seed for pink which I'm very excited about introducing into the garden. I think I will have to buy some more white seed though because my whites are reverting to purple sigh. My white liatris is also reverting to purple so I better put that into the Great Book of Lists too. Funny I gave seed away from the white liatris and its staying true in those gardens. Maybe it hates me :(

Plants do have a way of turning vicious on us.

When do your rhodies bloom MPLaurel? I just luv them.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

April through June. The natives that grow along the mountain river banks usually bloom in May. Those are the ones Patti is interested in seeing on her next train trip.

I have to mention that I love Calgary, Banf and the day I rented a car and explored Drumheller while DH was occupied. What an experience! First time I had ever seen those cute creatures popping up and down out of the ground. I bought lots of great shoes in Calgary. DH was given a white cowboy hat. What a neat place and who would think cowfolks were rustlin' on up there?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Laurel we are a taste of Texas in the Rockies ^_^. Thanks re: the rhodies. Same bloom time as my moms in the PNW in the same zone but they are so wet I wondered if your bloom time was different. One of my favorite thing is to take my mom to Van Dusen Gardens in Vancouver BC for Mother's Day to see the Rhodies. If you ever come back be sure to dmail me. We'll do the 'paint pots' in the mountains and the chocolate factory and of course an Alberta beef prime rib dinner. Also you can ooo and aaah over all my native plants and make notes about everything I'm doing wrong in my garden ^_^

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Sharron, not all the oaks have dropped their leaves yet, as many still have plenty on them to go. The one in front has dropped a lot, but not all of them. Maybe about half? I'm not sure, I just know that there was a thick carpet of leaves on the front lawn.

Oh, I love mountain ash. Very pretty.

Blue moon of Kentucky in the wee morning hours....
through the yellow maple that still has some clinging leaves that will fall as soon as I get the others raked.

I've been following all the Garden Photos threads and have really enjoyed looking at all your photos! I have been really bad about taking my own photos and it's sad because the fall colors here have been the some of the best we've seen in years. I do have one to share though :) I had been working in this garden for the past month and every day when the sun would hit this JM, I kept thinking I've got to get a picture! Unfortunately I waited too long and the colors were beginning to fade by the time I got the pic, but still pretty :) First I'll show you what it looked like in August, looking down from our deck.

Sharran.... I love your blue moon, it's beautiful. Really, the only thing that you need to know about the trees or plants that you currently have is that you like them!!! Unless.... you want to get another one just like something you have, that's when you need to know! Or you can just post a picture of something here and let the rest of us guess at what it is! I usually have one of two reasons why I want to know the name of something: 1) I might want to get one someday 2) it's suddenly become a challenge because I know I should know! Those are the only two reasons I have for needing/wanting the names!! And, i'm not set on your maple yet!! I have to get to a reference book on Saturday. Then my mind can rest!

Maypop, love your appalachian hills picture. what a view!

Dahlianut... whereabouts does your mom live in the PNW?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

OHhhhh...... Rcn, nice to see you. You're usually identifying things everywhere else! You're right, that maple is great. Actually I like the whole area there. Actually what I like the most though is your blue juniper! (or maybe it's a cypress, but I don't think so) It's beautiful. How old is it? how many acres are you on? what wonderful hills and valleys.

good morning JoAnn!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi RC Love the tree conversations, I dont know "jack" about trees, can id a few but thats it.
I'm winter sowing poppy seeds from DG'ers today.
Shirleys will go in with ths crocosmia.
Somniferums will wait until March in the shade-sun garden where the dead spruce came out.
I Preened the whole shade garden a week ago.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Well, as I said up above here, so long as you like the tree.... that's what's most important (at least IMHO :-p )
Wow, it sounds as if you have your work cut out for you today! I love somniferum poppies. I don't have much luck with them since the moles/gophers like them. But, they're really pretty!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Well Victor and Sue, for what I think is an obvious reason, I couldn't get close enough to get a good picture (at least not without waders). But, if you look closely, you can see the little white dots of the white coralberries.

Great moon shot, Sharon. Love the JM, Debbie! I do see the berries, Shelly - thanks.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Beautiful blue moon shot and gorgeous coralberry shot! I'm very impressed. Unfortunately, I think my camera has just about had it. Does anyone else, or has anyone else experienced a problem with their digital camera where the screen shoots little lines across it when you turn it on? And then, those lines show up in the photo, too??

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

What a dragg.
I have not had anything like that, sorry.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Well, I am hoping that none of you have experienced that, but just in case, I wondered if anyone knew what might cause it. Perhaps repairing the camera would be cheaper than purchasing a new one, although I wouldn't turn a new one down!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Sorry Candyce, no.

About oaks - they are always the last leaves I see drop by me. Last weekend the husband mulch mowed the leaves in the back, and now the yard is covered with only oak laves. glad I'm not the only one this happens to.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Candyce. Check into the price of a new one.
Sometimes its easier than repairing.
I have a new Nikon coolpix I love.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

candyce - i think your camera is a gonner - there should be GREAT sales this year on black friday (day after t-day) watch the flyers at best buy and ritz camera - i used to be in the camera biz (still am actually - just different cameras) cannon or nikon and you can't go wrong - i'm a cannon guy - the engineers i work with swear they have the best image processing.

buying is cheaper than new - check out this web site for reviews
http://www.dpreview.com/

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And many places (and websites) are already starting their black Friday prices now.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

This is going to be a season for bargins no matter what you are in the market for.
Retailers have had a bad omen since this summer,Holiday shopping is down due to poor economy.
There are sure to be marked down cameras.
Bill is right Canon oe Nikon.
I love my new one, its smaller ie thinner with a larger LED screen than the one I have had for four years.
I now travel with the smaller onein my purse and keep the old one in the house for shooting paintings.
Good luck, keep us posted.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Buy.com and newegg.com always run good sales. Sometimes Amazon too. So do the discount clubs.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

don' t forget b & h photo in NYC - they always have good prices as well

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, they're good too. Adorama also.

RCN - have you seen your happy birthday thread yet???? Happy Bday, if not!!! LOL
Love your pretty JM photos!!

Sharon - that shot of the mountain ash berries is beautiful!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Dahlia, that's a beautiful area that your parents live in, that's for sure. I've never been to that town in particular, but within about 20 mi. of it.

So, I'll ask this of all the plant experts here. Does anyone know what kind of fuschia this is? I really doubt that it's a hardy one, but I would like to know how hardy it is.

Here's a closer look at the flowers.

I have no clue, but I want it. That is gorgeous!!! Hopefully, we'll find out what it is and how hardy it is.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks Jan, I agree completely. I just posted those pictures in the ID forum and got an answer in 4 min.! I think that I must have known something on a subconscious level because it is only hardy to 35deg, and tonight is supposed to be below 30. I guess I knew that I should be doing something with it since I made a point to find out the info today!! The name of it is... Fuchsia triphylla 'Firecracker' I'm going to look up more stuff here in a bit to see if I can overwinter it in the garage or something.
