Garden Photos - Part 43

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

You are so good, debilu! I'm proud of you.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm in lust with your weeping beech, Victor, and your rose shot is gorgeous.

ROBINDOG, that was me who asked about last years frost. I was thinking it was late. All the trees that are turning and really almost done now were just looking great on Thanksgiving last year. It was quite unusual.

Victor, you're so funny. Though I would have a problem running up a hubby's charge card unless I knew he had the money to pay if off within 30 days to save him from having to pay interest. That's a killer.

Debilu, I always love bargains like that. I rarely spend full price for anything.

I don't think hubby ever gave me free reign on his card(smart man) but of course I have my own cards. We always pay balance off each month so we'd def have to be careful.

Working retail as long as I had I've learned NEVER pay full price, I know what things cost.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it is a crime what mark ups they do

jewelry is the worst.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

A agree about the markups. Certain stores always have sales of 30-40% off very marked up prices, so they can have sales all the time. I really try and wait till they have a clearance, though sometimes you don't get what you wanted that way. Last winter I got some nice coats marked way down. I was thrilled. They will last me a long time.

Wow, a few days off of the computer and I'm so completely out of sorts. Not that that's hard to accomplish :-p

Victor, I absolutely love your Fothergilla mt. airy this time of year. Have you seen poison oak before? I know that you have poison ivy out your way. Here we only have poison oak and I get it (the rash) very easily, have to get shots and all that. I'm very familiar with it to the exent that I get the job of collecting non-textbook looking plant samples to use in displays to help others stay out of it. The first time I ever saw that sumac grow-low, I wouldn't touch it. I actually thought that someone might have confused their rhus with a poison-oak that had seeded in a pot or something, after all they poison oak and Ivy are/were Rhus as well. After staring at it for quite some time (and looking up pictures of it online) I finally decided that I could pick it up and use it as a prank on folks. You've never seen so many people jolt back as when I do if I put a pot of that plant on a table in front of them.

Sharran, I'm glad to see you here again! I really like all your pictures, but especially the first one.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hi red,
thanks, I wasn't so very far away, you know.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

so true!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cruel, Shelly! No, I have never seen poison oak.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

oh... but so fun! especially since no one will actually get the rash! although, I still have tiny doubts in the back of my mind about that plant:-p

Thomaston, CT

I think it's too cold here for poison oak & poison sumac grows in swampy areas here---but the poison ivy is everywhere--getting bigger & bolder! Hate the stuff! Here is what's left of a blossom on my lemon tree---there's a tiny lemon just beginning---last one was attacked by scale---I should put some insecticidal soap on now.

"I think it's too cold here for poison oak "
Wrong!!! My brothers have gotten it many, many times. I never have, now the Ivy and Sumac I had had both several times.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Yep, poison oak will generally grow where poison ivy and sumac do. However, hopefully you'll be lucky and nobody will accidentally transport it over. So far here, we're lucky. There is just poison oak. I feel sorry for folks where all three of those lovely plants grow! It just amazes how tenacious it is and that it can actually be a pretty plant at times.

I sure hope that lemon makes it for you Robin!

Pixie... tell your brothers to stop rolling in the stuff. :-p hehe. I'm sure that they've tried Tecnu before (for me it doesn't cure, but it helps). But, Tecnu makes some new stuff called 'Armour Tecnu' that's precontact stuff. It really seems to lessen the impact. And then there's tecnu extreme... I carry all three!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm very allergic to poison ivy, and probably the other 2 as well, though I've never seen them here. The poison ivy we have plenty of. My sister in Texas has lots of poison oak on her property. Here is a pretty picture of poison ivy in fall colors.

I have to Roundup every little sprig I see. BEV It likes to come up in my flowers too. Darn stuff!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I have at least 3 or 4 areas on my property where it's growing, and yes, I have to Roundup it too. I hate it!

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Brush-B-Gone is much better than Roundup for it.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Love the brick arches, Sharon!

I'm in if blueberry tea is involved. I'll bring the fixins.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey Victor, thanks....
I love blueberry tea, Dalianut....bring lots of fixins.

Victor, I noticed you didn't mention helping rake the leaves...

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I like your leaves Sharron!! After just 1 dry day and a leaf blower will work wonders for you. Here...I'm not sure that a dry week (not going to happen!) would make it possible to use a leaf blower at the moment. I actually think your driveway looks sort of pretty.

Karen, if you react to one of them... you'll react to all three of them! It's the same substance in all three plants that drives some folks crazy. I thought about taking a picture of the poison oak in its' wonderful fall color this year, it was really bright. But, I just couldn't bring myself to get close enought take a picture of the nasty crud. However I can bring myself to get close enough to take the round up to it. I Wouldn't have it any other way!
I tried the 'brush b gone' stuff once, i didn't have as good of luck with it on the japanese knotweed. so since I generally i'm just a sort of "one for all" when it comes to sprays, I went back to round up. It works great on the poison oak here, but maybe it wouldn't do as well on poison ivy. Maybe I did something wrong with the brush b gone?

Dragonfly... I forgot to mention that I really liked the picture of your friends pond. Lovely colors.

I've never tried blueberry tea. Is it easy to come buy?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

It's been hard to get pictures since it's been dark clouds, but here's a few. All taken this last weekend.

good morning... neat looking berries!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I love callicarpa in the fall. The berries dry quite well to make arrangements and such.

It's been to dark out to get a decent picture of my 'jiro shidare', with this one exception when I was down by the river doing stuff and the clouds broke for a few seconds. I took a picture then. By the time I got up to the top of the bank the clouds had taken over again and it wasn't worth it to get a picture. :-s
