DAILY PICS VOL. 152

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

hmmm...another peeping tom at your house. Getting suspicious about you burn! LOL

I am getting one of the heated dishes this year too.

Burn, what lovely shots of the Blue Jay.

I went to Herdsman's Lake again today. Plenty of Rainbow Bee Eaters; the colours are just fantastic.

The well named Great Crested Grebe.

I shared an apple with this beautiful goose, along with several Swamphens and Ducks. Shared, my foot! They ate the lot.

Beautiful day Margaret!

Here's one from a few days ago when we had sun. The leaves are almost all of the trees here by the house so my light is better for picture taking. The gold in the background is a norway maple that needs to come down as it is growing in the middle of my lilac bush. It's a nightmare project I've been avoiding for years. At least it has provided me with a nice backdrop here!

Wee! My pine sisken arrived today! Last year it was Nov. 12, so they seem right on schedule. Don't guess they will stay for long. At least they did not last year.

I have really been scannin' the House Finch for any Pine Siskin that might be hiding amongst them!

Very nice guys! I'm keeping my eyes peeled for Pine Siskens too. Mine didn't stay long last year either; as soon as they saw how many hawks were around they bolted.

I also had my first red-bellied woodpecker of the season today! Haven't downloaded pix yet though to see if they are any good.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful pics. I just put out the finch feeder and I can't wait for them to visit. I'm kind of hoping this bird was a finch. It was flying around with the blue-headed vireo and it was smaller than the vireo, but it looks like about a 100 birds in my book. OK, not really that many, but I just can't tell.

Here she is again.

This is her friend the blue-headed vireo. If only he would have looked at me!

This pic is not that clear, but I like it anyway. It's in my neighbor's sweet gum tree. The hurricane blew the leaves off of some of the trees, and the trees responded by sending out fresh green new leaves. It's very weird to see this bright green everywhere at this time of year. My crepe myrtle was so confused that it sent out some flowers too. I'm not sure how that will affect the seasons.

Anyway, here's a female red-bellied woodpecker.

I love the Blue-headed Vireo!

Orange-crowned Warbler. Note the generally greeny-yellowy-browny plumage, yellowest around the undertail coverts.

Don't ask me why it's called "Orange-crowned" . . . the orange crown is "rarely seen in the field" according to Sibley. Like the ruby crown on a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, but even more so.

OMG, you can see generally greeny-yellowy-browny plumage! You're amazing. I saw one once and was able to identify it by the orange crown, but it was bathing. If it hadn't been bathing, I would never have figured out what it was!

Pelle, I tried so hard to get this Ruby-crowned Kinglet. This one in the tangle of branches was the best I could do, so I have to praise your amazing kinglet shots again!

That is usually how my kinglet shots are too. I guess they just love those bushes and trees that are tight with limbs and branches. And if there is one little spot of shade they will be in it.

Klamath River, CA

This lousy weather has put the birds into hiding, so I decided to post these new birds at my house.

GP, Love the Hummingbird and Buntings!

Elphaba,Very nice pic of the Kinglet;they certainly are a difficult subject! Mine were in a more open area but their so amazingly fast it's a test of ones patience. :-)

Great photos everyone!!

One of our Bald Eagles got hungry and dropped into the lake for a fish dinner. He was too far away for that photo, but I did get him afterward.

He's actually eating the fish while still flying around.

Took him a while, but he seemed to enjoy flying and eating at the same time.

Cool du!!

This pic is not great but htis was so cool. I was out just a bit ago walking the dog and we had stopped to take apic of the bluebirds in a tree. I just happened to turn and man here was a hawk coming right at me real fast!!

Of course I am a tad slow, so only got this pic after had passed right infront of me!!!! Then it was gone. It was scarey but so cool that it came so close.

Heh, be careful nanny, that hawk looks like it could carry off your little dog!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

It crossed my mind that it was eyeing Bud!! lol

Here are the Bluebirds I spotted before the hawk came along...can ya see 'em way up there??

Thank you Flower and Nanny.

Glad the hawk didn't get your pup Nanny. At least you got a photo of it. The Bluebirds and Warbler look so pretty in the trees.

No need to worry - hawks aren't that large or strong. A Bald Eagle might, possibly, be able to, but not a hawk.

The Horned Owls have always concerned me more. Bud is about the size of a large rabbit. The Eagles don't typically come this far over from the lake, which is only about a 7 minute drive from my house.

American Crow...out the upstairs window. Need to figure out a way to clean them....
