It's time to vote for the winners of the 2008 photo contest

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I wish I knew what in hoot I'm looking at in the Tropical catagory. LMBO @ myself ^_^

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Gitagal I just think that everyone has really made an effort to enter and share and I LUV IT. I hope if I give careful consideration to all that more will enter next year. Also I'm REALLY hoping that one of my entrys might make my cut. LOL I'm not even making the top 20.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

This may give you hope--I think all the pics I voted for in the bulb/corm/etc category were of dahlias!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

YA! ecrane3 (kiss, kiss) I'm sooo rooting (I guess I should say tubering) for the dahlias. I hope we're allowed to root without opening campaigning??

Santa Fe, NM

There are so many good dahlia pic's! But, those iris are Hot! And tulips!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Don't tempt me. I'm saving that catagory for last. Right now I'm stuck over wildlife and birds and even my gallery method isn't working. score: 5 down: 9 catagories to go.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Wow! lots of comments since the voting started. I almost missed it. Seems that the position in my sidebar is lower than it used to be and I DIDN'T CHANGE IT! I said last year and I'll say it again - I sure wish we could vote for out FIVE (5) favourites.

Ann

Wonderful entries this year!
Compliments to everyone for sharing their talents in the Garden and with Photography.
I have voted but I will give it a rest for a few days and go through them again.
I hope Dave will also include the 5 runner ups again this year when the voting is over. I can't remember who suggested this last year but it was rewarding to see the runner ups also.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Very hard voting with such great photos. The insect folks did an awsome job. Lot of great pet photos too...actually all the catagories are great!

I like the way the thumbnails are set up this year. Getting a quick glance at all the photos on one page helps a great deal in paring the favorites down.

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

I did vote all good pictures! Love all of picture sure it beautiful..

I'm with you Ann on more votes because it's so hard to choose. Note from Dave's post above that there is a discussion thread in the Daves Garden Forum on the contest before it begins. We should make our suggestions next year before the contest starts. Next year I'm going to suggest that when I 'remove' that it doesn't send me back to the top of my favs because I have so many it takes awhile to scroll back down.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

A BIG thumbsup to the staff and members that organized the photo contest voting set-up this year!! It is working like a charm.

Congrats to those who submitted their wonderful works of art!!

No more comments....back to voting or I won't get done in three days.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

I think all of the photographers are winners. This is my first year (voting, not entering) and I am truly amazed (and, yes, overwhelmed) by how beautiful these photos are. I made it through all the categories and finished, it took a pretty long time, but I truly enjoyed it. Also, hmm, there are some pictures I would really like to know the name of the plant... So, I'll just keep looking, even though my voting is finished. Thanks to all for sharing. Peg

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

The winners will be announced on the 17th. Sooo, you have through the 16th to vote. :o)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well I have changed my judging criteria and the score is now 8 down: 6 catagorys to go. Whooo hooo half done. I will share this after the contest is over in case it helps others next year. I have also recorded it in the Book of Lists in case I forget it.

Santa Fe, NM

I'm still looking and then looking again! Glad we have through the 16th.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Wow, well that was tough, esp the scenic, seasonal and sunsets.
Beautiful pics!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Not sure where I got the three days....whew glad we have longer ...this is work!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Merpeg, if you can remember what pictures they were, I think that the names will be put with the pictures afterward (I think) so you might be able to dmail the person and ask them what it is.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Yes Red, when the judging is over and the winners are chosen. You will see how many votes and who the photographer is. Have you looked a last years? You will also see the runners up. Course this year has a twist, unless I got my wires crossed. (which I do that alot)
We will, after the winners are chosien get to vote on which month they will go in.
LOL have fun

Hi,

I am new to Dave's Garden, and had an enjoyable morning looking at some of the categories in the Photo Contest. It was so hard to choose just three as favorites. There were so many that were worthy of attention and praise. Wow! It would be nice if there were a top 10 with one being a winner. I was really torn but actually the top three were clearly my favorites, but there were so many that were just as good. My choices had to be purely subjective...for instance, maybe I am a dog lover rather than a cat lover. But some of the cat photos were funny as all get out. Maybe they could allow for voting for specific designations....like best dog photo, funniest photo, best composition, etc etc.?

Not trying to make it more complicated. It is fine the way it is, if it needs to be simple. I just wanted all of those who submitted photos to know how much I really enjoyed their photos even if I didn't choose them as the top three.

:-)

Santa Fe, NM

Yes, looking at previous years sometimes I liked 3rd place better than first and so on. Subjective, of course. Such a treat to be able to look at all of them.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Some of the pics would make wonderful greeting cards or post cards.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Gosh, took me most of the morning, but a thoroughly enjoyable time. Wonderful photos! Kudos to Admin for making the viewing and voting so easy and uncomplicated. Great Job!

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Incredible, outstanding, there really are outstanding photographers here at Dave's Garden.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

Great pictures. More detail that I really want to see on a bug! LOL.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I had a semi-brainstorm today......

When the Photo Contest is announced, it takes me so long to look through all my picture files and find something worthwhile to post. It is impossible to look through all of them....

SOOOO....I am going to start a new Folder and call it "DG Photo Contest 2009".
Then--every time, in the coming year, when I take a really, really good picture of something--I will c/p it this folder. Should make life a lot easier next year....

Gita

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Gita, I went through almost all of my photos I had posted in the PlantFiles (nearly 3,000 of them) and made a list of potential contest entry photos listed by category starting about a week before the contest ended. If a photo was suitable for more than 1 category, I listed it in both. I thought I had really become efficient. But, I thought I the deadline for entering was midnight, November 3. So, I had not made my final decisions on my entries for most of the categories and had not entered any photos in 3 of them when the contest entry time was closed. I even had one photo entered that was my 3rd choice for a category. I have trouble making up my mind when trying to select my entries as well as when voting. I am going to do what you are going to do and add photos throughout the year that are possible entries for next year's contest and then be sure I am through entering my selections a day ahead of time.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Great idea! I'm going to do that too. Thanks.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I did the folder thing the last 2 years, really helped but I still had trouble deciding from those. I just take too many pictures!
I already have my 2009 started.

State of..., MA(Zone 6a)

I just finished voting in all the categories and what a talented group of gardeners and photographers! I had to pass over so many wonderful photos, it was a shame! I surprised myself, by being able to quickly choose which were my favorites. I deliberately, didn't let myself think about it too much, I just went by gut instinct of what I liked and what I didn't and in the end, I was pretty happy with my choices, just wishing I had more..lol.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Fabulous photos - great gardeners! Some of the landscapes made me so homesick for New England....just beautiful!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I have never voted before.I did one category and picked my 3 favorites. When I was finished,it didn't say anything, except return to contest page.Did I actually vote? Sorry to be so ignorant.
Lynn

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I sure hope so! That is what I have been doing too! I only have 2 categories left to do.

Now I am worried--as I did not click anything else except the same as you....

Anyone???? Gita

When you go back to The 2008 Dave's Garden Photo Contest Page
Does it say yes in the Column
Have you voted yet?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Don't worry, if you picked your first, second, third etc then your votes are in. If you're not sure, go back into the category and it should show you above each pic whether it's your first choice, etc.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks once again,Ecrane3.
