Becky, Anything to help lighten our gardening chores.

I too have cinder blocks on the patio to use as Plant stands, with plants growing out the holes on both sides..I packed with soil and moss and planted the seeds/plants and they do very well all summer! I need to get some more with some boards to fix up down here in thebasement nursery and get all these plants off the floor!

Debra - Your Heliotrope is beautiful and I love your fountain. Never seen one quite like that with the front of the bowl for non-aquatic plants! Very cool!

And I love the idea you did with the cinder blocks! Never would've thought of using them sideways instead of upright. Fabulous!!! I like the idea of using them upright, too. Just place the cider blocks where you want and then create a Bamboo teepee around each block! I bet the cider block keep the roots and lower vine protected against the elements? Perhaps? I know the concrete sprinkler donuts that I use do.

Becky, can you show me a pic of your concrete donuts? The cinder blocks kept everything nice and protected and never had to worry about drying out as when I watered they got watered too.. they sure are good for high winds! LOl ( not one time did they topple, unlike my wire plant stands;O)

Debra - I had just posted photos of the concrete sprinkler donuts in the "Morning Glories 2008 #24" thread:

The donuts seem to also protect the roots from drying out so quickly in my zone 10 summer heat.

You guys are throwing out some great ideas. Keep 'em coming. I can see where the blocks would protect the roots from the heat and sun.

Wanted to join in....just found this thread. I am fairly new to DG and completely new to MG's. I have collected a few seeds that I have been excited to find out how early I can plant them.....thinking it would be Spring. Now I see that is not the case at all. It is wonderful to see everyone sharing their new experiences! I have been lurking and absorbing this forum for a couple weeks now as I have time, trying to learn as much as I can! You all have given me so much inspiration and I can't wait to start myself.....Thank you, to everyone on this forum!
