They are blue with white on outter edges.

I've been acquiring my first seeds too and can't wait until spring. I'll probably try a trial run in Jan.

I'm going to let some grow up some of my many trees. Others I will make trellises for the outside of my sunroom. Then up the posts of the carport and ........well there are endless possibilities. My daughter gets half of my seeds so she can pretty up her yard too. Most of ours are blue but there are also some pinks.

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Great guess us newbies to them will have to chat till we become oldies in this forum.LOL
I am getting excited about spring.

Lavina

Oh I would love seeds especially if I can grow them over the winter in the green house. I just got my Green House built and gotta fix my shelves then I am ready to go.

If any of you need more seeds, dmail me. I have seeds from my April grow-out. I don't know how much seed collecting I will be doing on my current grow-out. The weather and the rain have really stunted the growth and blooms on them, so I am not seeing many pods at all. :-(

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I tried to post earlier today but my ISP is not connecting at all today. So frustrating.

ceej, nice sprouts. I just planted five different types into peat pots yesterday. I can't wait until spring either. Thanks for the seed offer but Becky sent me plenty to get started on. She has some beauts too. Becky, I planted three of yours and two of another Dger. I will let you know how they do.

My son-in-law finishes up my greenhouse this Sat. I can see I have alreday outgrown it. Maybe next year I will convert the old shed into another greenhouse. wait until my hubby hears that one.

i got seed from becky too texasgrower :-)

i've got to get the bubble insulation up in my greenhouse so i've got mine on the windowsil at the moment.... tho' from what i've read on the threads i should be able to keep a couple in the house over the winter too...

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Oh No you guys are bad. Now I know I can grow them in the kitchen window, I did not think of them inside the house.
Taexas grower congrads on the new Green house , mine was just finished last week and now the shelves are all I need.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

It will be fun to see how well each of your winter MG starts do. Just remember that they need sunlight or some other source of light to do thrive and bloom. And don't forget the Bloom Booster fertilizer! Use that when you water them every 2-3 weeks! :-) Good luck and be sure to post photos! :-)

thanks becky :-)

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I need shelves too. What are you going to use Lavina?

Guess what? The Heavenly Blue MG I sowed on Sunday, is already germinating. I can't believe it. It is one of Marwoods. I will have to let her know. The other mgs, and my two Desert Rose seeds are still snug in their pots. A Desert Rose seed usually sprouts in five days but the MG has it beat.

Ooohhh all my cuttings and seedlings are thriving. I'm so excited.

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Right now I am gonna put some old shelves I have that are metal. will get around to building new ones in the spring.LOL

Lavina

have you got your shelves sorted you two?
i was surprised at how quick home grown seeds sprouts... it must be the freshness... one of my sprouts died :-( one is refusing to show it's head... just pushing above the soil... it's been like that for two days... the others have taken off :-)

here's a pic of my winter sprouts :-)

No shelves yet. But Becky's Lady Yagamura and Joyce Cobb sprouted. I hadn't looked at them in two days and bammo, today I look and their trying to bust out through the lid. So now all three are in soil, peat pots and all. Two sprouts have yet to emerge. Maybe your one sprout likes it in it's cozy home ceej. Just talk sweet to it. Tell it you will give it something nice to climb on. Nice sprouts by the way.

I will check out the links too. Thanks. Jeanne

thanks for the advice texas... i spoke to it... it died :-( i blame you... it couldn't possibly have been me....lol

the others are fine tho' :-) (do you think i should get them ear muffs...lol)

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh goodness! I'm so sorry. What did you say to her? I would definately get the others ear muffs. :-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

how exciting for all of you with greenhouses and real shelves! I use anything that I can set a tray on! LOL

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

well Debra , it looks like I will build my own shelves out of wood. I think it would be cheaper. The greenhouse will be finished tomorrow. I will post a pic. It'a a little thing. I think I have already outgrown it. But it will be better than my front porch.

The three mg seedlings are growing an inch a day. I'm not kidding. I've never seen anything like it.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I believe you.. the ones I planted from beckyg are growing faster than bamboo! So much fun to grow seeds isn't it?

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

You betcha. Maybe someday I'll have brug seeds. But I have a feeling that is a long way off. Have you ever grown brugs from seeds?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Brugs can grow fairly easy from seed. I've harvested seeds and shared them with others who had quite good results growing them from seeds. The trick is getting fresh seeds. :-) Unfortunately, I don't have any seeds currently ... or I would share some with you. :-(

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I don't have any either.. just a bunch of cuttings.. u want one of those? LOL

i was lucky (i think) i got my shelves from someone at the allotments... but he only had them 'cos someone had broken into tthe plots smashed all the glass in is greenhouse and took off with the alluminium! :-( before that i had wooden ones suspended on chains at the front and hooks and eyes holding the back up (hope that makes sense) so that they could be removed/hinged for tomatoes etc.... so chains and hooks and eyes in combination are my tip :-)

texasgrower... i only said nice things... honest :-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Jeanne, the MGs' I had went up all my trees some as high as 30 ft... it was amazing! I think I sent you some of those seeds..
Lavina: I will send you some seeds if you Dmail me your addy.. ;)

That's what I'm hoping some of my mgs will do, climb up some of my trees. You sent Heavenly Blue and Scarlett. I have more than enough seeds between you and Becky and Marlon. My daughter and I will be busy planting in the spring. Thanks for the offer.
I have plenty of brug cuttings too Debra. Some are in moss and others in potting soil, all under lights. My nursery is full. You are sweet to ask.

Becky I know would share seeds if you had them. If you did I would take them too. :)

Ceej, I don't think my aluminum frame would hold hanging shelves. In fact I don't think there would be a place to hang anything. THe house is only 6x8 and 7ft center. Now if I convert my shed into a greenhouse next year I could put in hanging shelves. Will keep that in mind as I plan.

I love my cinder block and 1x 8x 10 foot boards set up for shelving.
Cost effective and I can change the set-up My g house is 12x 24 long.
I lay out my first cinder blocks 10 feet apart. I use an extra one placed half-way
for extra bracing. These 3 cinders I lay flat to be my bottom shelf. I position my
10 foot board across these 3 cinders.Then
right behind each of the 3 flat cinders, I stand an upright cinder block.
Right behind each of those 3, I stand another one. So then I lay 2 boards, 10 feet,
across both of these cinders giving me a double shelf there. The final step
is to stand another cinder block up over the back cinder over the board
already in place, making my top shelf. Clear as mud? lol
In this photo, DH has set an extra block, not being used, just off the floor and out of the walkway. It's the one with
the Bayer 2 in 1 systemic and Rose food sitting on it.
Not trying to convince anyone to do this, it's just what works for me. The only hard
part is lifting the cinder blocks. They have a lighter one now that weighs just 18 lbs or so. lol I do another set-up with 8 foot boards right beside the 10 foot set-up. This lvs me 6 feet of free space for my gigantic heater and all kinds of junk
on the floor, a rope handled water tub on the other side
I repeat the 10 and 8 feet set-ups on the other side of the g house and a
smaller, 2 shelf, set-up in the back.

Well that just might work for me Patootie, but on a smaller scale. There is a concrete plant here that sells all kinds of blocks cheaper than in a store. So when hubby gets back from his fishing trip I'm gonna send right over there.

Thanks

thats a fab idea patootie.... i think what you call cinder blocks we call breeze blocks... and i think i know where i can salvage some from too :-)))

thanks

One of the best things about this type set-up is how quickly you can have
the shelves in place. I used to take mine down in the summer since I had
to move everything out for the summer anyway, set them up in the front
of the house, and used them for plant sales or just to summer my plant's
under the shade trees. I used to sell rooted Angel wing Begonia's
and spent the money I made on new plants, of course. lol

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Thanks for all the ideas (I got lots of lumber left and cement blocks from something else. I can't wait and am off tomorrow so I will get started.

Lavina

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Great Lavina, send us a pic when you finish, if you want to. :-)

Patootie, your greenhouse looks just like one of the greenhouses from a local Business that sells indoor and outdoor houseplants!~great set up. Cinderblocks can make great planters as well. They are perfect for controlling roots that send out tubers, and sturdy to a great height. I use some for MGs under my Kitch window!
:D

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Darren for the tip. I would never have thought of using the blocks as planters. I might want to try that this coming spring.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

well son-in-law finished my greenhouse yesterday, except for the two vents. He'll do those this weekend. I am very pleased. Now to shelve it and gravel around the outside. Had rain all day and the inside is nice and dry.

Two more mgs sprouted and are in pots. That makes five all totaled. Let's see what they do now. I put bloom booster to them as Becky suggested.

Hubby and I will get the shelf makings this Fri. Concrete and wood. So simple.

Jeanne - Very nice greenhouse!!! Your SIL did a great job building it! :-)

Jackie - I love the shelving in your greenhouse! What a simple, easy, and relatively cheap idea!

Darren - It never occured to me to use concrete blocks as a planter! I bet they do make a nice planter. Somewhere I read that something in the concrete (lime?) can leach into the soil. Though if the blocks are older and weathered, they might be just fine.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Jeanne, I agree with Becky, your s-i-l did a great job. Now you're ready to
just enjoy it. You'll wonder how you ever did without one. lol

He is a good boy. I see though that I have already outgrown it. But until I refit the old shed this one will work just fine. I can't wait to make a nest for my plant babies. :)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - The more I think of your easy shelving, the more I am thinking I can use that idea against the back of my house to sit potted plants that I am growing. I have pots all over the place right now. That would make it so much easier for me to water and keep track of them. Hmmmm ... :-)
