I was so surprised how friendly all these guys were. Guess their used to all the people traffic.
Last Day down the Jersey Shore
When I got to my sister's house (she lives pretty much in a very wooded area) this
Turkey Vulture flew into a dead tree at the front of her property.
On the way home I stopped at a spot in Avalon called Sea Watch. There was a very nice man there with a major league spotting scope and other impressive equipment. I went over and talked to him. I noticed he seemed to be counting birds so I asked who he worked for and he said NJ Audubon. He was very nice and with his help I saw 2 new birds. A Northern Gannet and Northern Harrier!
This was a great year ending trip for me.
Sorry for the long post.
Oh Pelle...I loved every minute of this trip! I can't even pick a favorite they are all done so well...I think the killer is that Yellow Rumped Warbler...just exquisite! I loved that you showed the surrounding areas and points of interest also..probably the closest I'll get to the Jersery Shore! Thanks for taking the time to share...it was a beautiful trip!
I was thinking it wasn't long enough. Great pics! Last time we went to the shore I forgot my camera.
Thanks guys, I'm so happy I chose early Sunday morning to go down and Monday afternoon to come home because of the severe weather change Monday night.
Believe me theres alot more pics; at Stone Harbor point I took 200 photos alone!
Resin, Sorry I said the birds were the same .I changed my mind about which 2nd pic to post at the last second but my brain obviously didn't pay attention. :-)
Well so far there's 5 new birds for me including the 2 the Audubon guy was nice enough to point out.
Here's another scene at the beach.
Great pics, Pelle. My favorite is the one of the mixed group on the beach.
Oh, Pell, some really great stuff here. I love the composition of the group at high tide. The boat grackle and crab is amazing too! Fabulous reflections in 7 and the next. Glad you had a good day.

Pelle, what a fabulous thread. Thanks. Enjoyed each and every shot and no, it wasn't too long. Great picture of the Yellow Rumped Warbler. Those Oystercatcher shots are great. Don't you love the way they eye you with suspicion as they walk along, looking so formal. I really love that last shot with the Sanderlings in the air.
Thanks again guys and thanks Resin, that makes 2 more new ones!
Margaret. what surpises do you have for us today. Lee
Just took a good look at the first pic you posted of the ocean....wow!
Thanks for sharing such wonderful pictures. Like Rose said, I like how you've shown the surrounding area, and the ocean. It's interesting to see the birds in their natural habitat. And great to see some close up of them for good Id. Would be interesting to see more.
Oh this was a fantastic trip..felt like we were along with you. No way can I pick a favorite..but rose may be right the Yellow -rumped is a knockout. Congratulations on all your new birds too!!!
I would love to live close enough to drive to the ocean! We are considering moving to North Carolina when he retires. Have it all... mountains and ocean near by.
Great pictures tell the story of a wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing =)
