This is going to be a rather long thread so I'll try to do it in stages.
My first stop was the point in Stone Harbor. Here's a scene looking southbound out to the ocean.
The birds I can't identify myself I'll put numbers on so Resin can put the names to them later.
Last Day down the Jersey Shore
Enjoying your great thread on such a cold and windy rainy/snowy day here!!! GM
Keep them coming!
1 - adult winter Laughing Gull
2 - yep, adult and 1st-winter Herring Gulls
3 - near-adult (probably 4th year) Herring Gull (not a full adult, due to the black marks on the bill)
4 - winter plumage Ruddy Turnstone
"same" - winter plumage Dunlin (not the same at all!! ;-)
"mixed group running along" - Dunlins, Sanderlings, Ruddy Turnstones, American Oystercatchers
5 - Greater Yellowlegs
6 - Song Sparrow
7 - Swamp Sparrow
Resin
Looks like you had a great day out pelle! Those Oystercatchers had their eyes on you! The last little one looks very sweet!
It's turned cold here too, only 44F today with frost to 28F in the greenhouse last night, think it will be colder tonight. Some places had snow too!
My gosh! By the last little guy I meant #7, lol.
Okay I'm taking a little break now. Next stop is Cape May.
Thanks wallaby, it was 62 there on Sunday but now its gotten quite raw out.
They've now anounced they'll cancel the world series again tonight.
Dear Wallaby, sounds like you should be Aussie but you know your birds. The birds here in the Deep South are a little slow arriving esp., one of my favorites, the red-breasted grosbeak. I've sunflower seed out for them as they devour them for their trip to the Neo tropics. My hope this year is to have oodles of Evening Grosbeaks as we did last year. They are not always as predictable but loved the juniper berries. Hope to talk to you soon and allow you to impart some of your wisdom to me. Lee
Great shot pelletory. Lee
