I'm at high elevation - zone 6. I hope to plant my first vegetable garden in the spring.
Are there any vegetables I should avoid planting at this elevation?
Also, are there any specific pests or other problems you can warn me about ahead of time?
Thanks.
Questions for anyone living in Appalachian mountains
I would think that you could grow just about any temperate climate vegetable in the Raleigh area. I lived for 28 years just out of Blacksgurg, Virginia. Cool weather crops did great. Had to pick and choose for hot weather crops, but even okra, lima beans, and cowpeas did well by choosing early maturing cultivars.
CrimsonBee, Welcome to DG!
I'm a little confused though, Raleigh is not in the mountains (and is zone 7). Perhaps you are soon moving to the mtns and just have Raleigh listed as your homeplace temporarily?
Like Farmerdill says, you can pretty much grow anything you want to in the mtns, keeping an eye on the weather temps as you would be doing anywhere else anyway.
Hope to hear more info as to what you would like to grow specifically.
