broncbuster - LOVE the ornamental pepper! So colorful. It looks large & healthy. How old is it?

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

My daisy and french hollyhock have stopped blooming along time ago.Enjoying the pics. Did notice the penstemon blooming in this cool temp. Yes, it feels like winter esp when the wind blows.

Anna, is that Brazos penstemon? how odd but how nice that it should be blooming at this time.

mmm well good question frost....the flowers are a dark maroon color not light like the ones in the file.
the leaves are not variegated though like the file shows for the haight....they are a green to almost a dark maroon red blend.
I'll have to get ahold of DDeTex and ask him as he is the one that gave it to me I was just tickled it had 3 flowers on it yesterday

This was one of the many gifts from Mitch before he moved. All I know is button mum. I love the foliage as much as the bloom. Took this right before dark tonight. Took a lot of cuttings to root and hope to have a lot to share in the spring. This garden comes from others who have shared. How blessed I am.

Thank you, Jo. Such a dunce I am. Must have looked at this before because I have listed my zipcode. Would be glad to share. Tomorrow I will take some cuttings and try to root this as well.

Could this be a Texas native?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I am afraid not, it is native to Asia, but very pretty enjoy.

Don't think the penstemon is native. The tag says P. Smalii "Violet Dusk".

Aswan, these peppers are annuals they get pretty big in one season. If you'll send me a SASE, I'll send you some seeds. Thanks!

Good morning, friends!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

T.J. your flowers are beautiful, and we miss you too, I hope you will be able to participate a little more soon.

Well, I guess it's still "late fall" for my part of Texas. We don't really get "winter" until Jan & Feb. I still have stuff blooming like crazy. The Flame Vine is still a sloid orange mass. My Knockouts are blooming their little selves silly. All my salvias are enjoying the cooler weather too. I've tried to pull out all the Balck & Blue Salvia and replace it with less invasive plants. Here's what the reworked beds by the entry look like right now.

And here's my chenille plant. It's gotten huge and the fall colors on it are spectacular.

Beautiful pictures crowelli. Aren't you expecting freezing temps later on in the week????

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Pretty! Looks like your dog likes to be photographed too.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Banana, I hadn't even notice she was in the window! That;s her favorite "watch dog" spot, if I'm in the yard, she's watching!

Phughes, as to the freeze, I haven't heard about it freezing, but I'm sure our first one should be within the next few weeks. Unless it's a really hard one, all this stuff should make it through. My chenille plants have been in ground for about 4 years now. They get the end growth singed, but always come back like gangbusters. I've got a lot of huge begonias and they're never had any problem, even in hard freezes. My only iffy plants are two huge plumerias, but they made it through a couple of hard freezes last year and still bloomed like crazy this year. I'm done wagging stuff in and out due to weather, so it either survives or dies on it's on.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I thought RJ mentioned on another thread that he thought Houston might receive its first freeze, but you never can tell. I dmailed him today for an update on the weather. With him working for the airline industry, he stays abreast of the weather usually. I keep all my potted plants on a covered patio that has been covered with thick plastic, but the stuff in the ground stays there. Last year I dug up some of my plumeria and put them in pots, but this year I didn't feel like it. It seems like its going to be a colder winter though. May end up having to cover stuff if we see some hard freezes later on.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

It's sleeting here now! Not freezing yet but it's supposed to. I've already had 3 freezes before this.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, it was windy as heck here last night, but no freeze. The temps did get down to 30's though. This morning, my biggest porterweed was down and partially uprooted. It's very top heavy and this happened even though it was staked. I was out tieing it back up and got a lot of funny looks from traffic driving by. I guess it was because I was out in 30 something degree weather in shorts and a tee shirt. I love this cool weather!

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

It was 37 as I drove to work this morning, but the wind makes it feel colder. I have not checked to see what damage the wind may have done, but I know when this front blew in last night, the wind was blowing like crazy. I would love this weather if I didn't have to go to work. Wish I was home sipping a capuchinno.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

This has been the weirdest weather lately! No rain, sleet, or snowflakes yesterday, but very high winds and cold temps. My salvias are still blooming, too!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

These roses were photographed on Dec. 8, but we had a freeze last night and will again tonight, so I'm not sure what they will look like tomorrow!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Connie, that rose is absolutely gorgeous! So many large blooms on it and the color is stunning. My Knockouts are all blooming like crazy, even after the snow and freeze. I have a small birtdbath outside and the water in it was frozen solid a few mornings past, but it didn't seem to affect the roses at all.
