Hellllllloooooo! I'm baaaaaack! Been back three days but have been deep into quilting websites kindly provided by Marion.
Just kidding! Got back last evening and have been really busy today. Woody had a 9:30 vet appt and then we had an appraiser here after noon to appraise the house for a home equity loan (to pay for that huge generator we had installed last week). That pretty much guarantees we will never have a power outage again, right? :) Have a lot of catching up to do before heading over to DFIL's house for his 94th birthday dinner. I got him a big bucket of peanut brittle at one of the craft fairs. Didn't find as many Christmas gifts as I had hoped but did get a few. A pottery hummingbird feeder for DSIL, a wooden plaque with their names and a trailer for DBIL and DSIL to hang while they are here in their trailer for weeks at a time after they retire next year, an engraved cake server and marriage certificate tube for DD and future DSIL, a large 4 house birdhouse on a post for me, some hanging wire flower baskets, a metal garden stake with giant multicolored 'gemstones' at the top, and as always, several soup mixes. We had a lot of fun and were exhausted after 2 1/2 days of craft shows. The weather was perfect - upper 60's to low 70's during the day and clear as a bell.
Stacey, looks like you had a great birthday weekend. Super cute purse BJ made for you. LK, love the kitty purse you made. Is that a flap over the front? Kathy, how's the baby's feet? There are so many more to touch base with - will try to catch up with you all later. Need to get busy to go to DFIL's. Won't be around much tomorrow either - Master Gardener meeting then hair cut. Things will start picking up - this is my busy time of year. Will be working much more next month.
Later gaters!
joyce, at one time I thought everybody went to a new thread and didn't tell me, so I know how you felt! We didn't mean to leave you out!
Jaye, forgot to tell you - you would love our vet - Rene' LaVergne. He's from LA and grad from LSU and is a huge fan. He throws big cookouts every year for the AR/LSU game. He was wearing this wristwatch today with a giant purple face that says LSU. Was hard to miss it. lol!
Thanks for the compliments everyone. yes there is a flap on the purse. I will get some white velcro, so it can stay closed.
Linda Kay
WOW... chatty bunch this afternoon...
I lost internet connection for a while, and couldn't figure out why. Rebooted the wireless box, and Don's computer was connected, but I wasn't... Finally, Don looked at mine and somehow, someway, my connection got turned off... don't know how that happened.
Joyce... keep up now... I know you were here after Labor Day, cause you were here for all the pictures from Kathy's house.
Just finished the tote for my sister, it's in the washer now... turned out really cute... will post pic when it's dried.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLAMINGO KIM !!!!
Marion, you have a safe trip to your mom's tomorrow... and tell your sis and mom HI for us... hope she's recovered from her fall now.
Debra... sounds like loads of fun... I love trips like that with girlfriends.
Monarchs are on the move. It's my understanding that there's a genetic "in the know" of the last brood to fledge to over winter and return in the spring. All the parents and grandparents before them actually lived out their lives in North American and died naturally. If I am wrong, please correct me.
http://www.fs.fed.us/monarchbutterfly/migration/index.shtml
Unlike most other insects in temperate climates, Monarch butterflies cannot survive a long cold winter. Instead, they spend the winter in roosting spots. Monarchs west of the Rocky Mountains travel to small groves of trees along the California coast. Those east of the Rocky Mountains fly farther south to the forests high in the mountains of Mexico. The monarch's migration is driven by seasonal changes. Daylength and temperature changes influence the movement of the Monarch.
BJ< thats great purse. I've gotta get me a machine!
Happy Birthday Kim and Donna.!!!!
Happy birthday girls
am sipping on my chicken broth and have already taken cough syrup and some meds.
just poppin in to say HI then of to lay down.
Do ahve a question though for anyone wtih knowledge in the area.
My folks happen to have a piece of property in Cherokee Village Arkansas...they have ben trying to sell it for a number of years and no luck so far ...either the Realtor want to ask a super cheap price or they go out of business. ....or they call asking about lettin them list it then never get back to them.
Anyone know any good realtors near there?
We're keeping our fingers crossed that you get a machine really soon...
Yes... Happy Birthday Donna...
Donna, you really need to talk to us more often... don't become a fleeting memory... you know how old brains work...
I don't know about realtors in Ark. Maybe Debra can help you. Did you google for some in that area? Century 21 should be in about every state and several other national realtors.
BJ, that's a beautiful tote. Black and white with a touch of red. It looks so classy. Your sister will love it! You go sistah... have sewing machine will bag it!!
Deborah, you are turning all of us into b'flies caretakers. I take their presence for granted here as I see so many of them and I'm glad there's hope for Marion to have as many as she wants even in a shady garden.
Happy Birthday dearest Kim!! Hope a nice flamingo fairy give you lots of presents.
Agreeing with BJ, you drop in often Donna.
Welcome back Debra. Your vet came from the right school :D Soup mixes... that's a good idea for something fast this winter. Debra, post a pic of that four house b/house. Am curious now.
Audrey, I hope you're feeling better. You know we miss you when you stay away too long!
Phyllis, you might have to take a day off and just rest. Don't want anything you got right now to turn into pneumonia. Did you get your flu shot? As for a realtor in Arkansas, why don't you post it in the Arkansas forum, someone might know something of dmail Cathy. Or like Deborah suggest, resort to a reliable Century 21.
Judy, (seedtosser1). I got my sock from you today. Thank you so much. it is a real pretty soft blue in color, and it says world's softest on the side. Soft is not the word, it is cuddly sofy. Thank you and I will enjoy it with all the others.

I love the bag you made for your sister BJ. Classy!!! Elegant!!! What is there about black and white with a touch of red that is so outstanding? Bet's me just know I like it.
On a slow rush trying to get things finished before calling it a day.
A huge Happy Birthday Flaming Kim and Donna, someday traveling buddy, I might not be at a computer so sending wishes and hugs early!!!!!!
Phyllis, hurry and get well. We need up and going full strength. Keep us "ole ladies" in line. I know, not all are old I speak for myself!!! NOT!!!
Joyce, did you find the cookie crumbs? Hope so.
Evening Kathy, how are all the babies?
Ladies just found out something interesting today. The manilla envelopes with the metal clasp or not supposed to be used mailing things without taking the clasp off. My postmistress was nice enough to remove mine but said they weren't suppose to accept them or either charge an additional fee. The are rough on the sorting machines. Even putting tape over them won't matter. Just a word to the wise.
TY very much ... I hope she likes it too... I always worry about it, cause she's the artsy fartsy one in the family... she's also a regifter, so if she doesn't like it, she'll find someone who does.
I knew that about the clasp, Marion... it does tear up the sorters... I always buy the kind without the clasp. The glue they use doesn't stick real well, so I always have to add tape.
Phyllis... you ok girlfriend? now, don't you go spreading all those germs all over those kids on the bus... you better stay home and take care of yourself so it doesn't get worse...
I'm going to bed to read a while... before I get too sleepy... gotta find out why all the seals are dying on that tropical island...
Night night folks.
what seals, what island? If I gotta watch tv to find out, then I don't need to know. I hate dislike tv with a purple passion. Unless the Dawgs are on, ahem.
Jaye, we will be friendly foes this Saturday. Are you going to La to watch them play? Your team has my Larry worried.
I finally got here, I will neeevvverrr get caught up!!!!!!!!!!
Their car went out again!!!!!!!!!!!! I am hoping we did it this time.....we are going to try a new battery. If that doesn't work we are going to take it to MY Mechanic..........
About the soup recipe Deborah, I will see what I can do......I never have written it down...I am a some of this, a little of that and a pinch of something else kind of cook!!
We have been getting a little sun....then pouring rain, then sun, then rain....and I am trying to get a headache and I don't want one!! Then to top it off have to go to the shop with DH tonight and help him haul pallet over to the main office building after class.....doesn't that sound like loads of fun!!!!
Won't it be great if we get all the sistahs rounded up and on one thread at the same time!!! Is that possible????
Trisha, you are my kind of cook. We've always done it that way too. Just give me the ingredients and I can wing it. Would I cook it in a crock pot or a dutch oven pot?
Trisha, so sorry about your headache and pallet hauling. Bless your heart♥. And I don't think we could ever be on one thread all at the same time. Wouldn't that be a hoot! Fingers moving across the keyboard a mile a minute instead of our mouths talking about umpteen different subjects at one time. Come to think of it, maybe it is possible, that might be why Jaye named it "Sweet Interruptions".
It is kind of crazy isn't it? Hard to keep up with all the different conversations, etc. but I love this thread. This is my #1 favorite thread because of all the sistahs gathering here.
Deborah, that's my understanding of Monarchs. I've attended 3 talks on Monarch migration and that's what I came away with. Fascinating, isn't it? How does that last batch know to fly to Mexico and live so much longer than the generations before it? The sad thing is the cedar trees in Mexico are being cut and their winter habitat is disappearing. I'm sure you've seen the photos or videos of them Monarchs on the trees - they get so heavy they actually break tree branches. Can you imagine seeing that in person? How cool would that be?
PHYLLIS - DMAIL ME THE AREA WHERE YOUR PARENT'S PROPERTY IS. I have a very good realtor here in town - have bought/sold several properties over the years - they don't get any better than Roddy and I trust him 100%. I'll be glad to call him and get a recommendation.
Deborah... not to worry... the dead seals on the island are part of the plot in the book I'm reading... actually, they're sea lions... and they found a whole beach of dead ones... now, there's people dying too...
But, Dirk Pitt is hot on the trail of the answer to all this mystery...
Chapter 2...
I couldn't see the print, gotta get some brighter light bulbs for the bed lamps tomorrow... I'm not sleepy either. Of all things, Don asked me to make coffee this late at night... Deborah, you two would get along just marvelously...
Deborah, I guess what I actually meant by all at one time is not to have several missing (like jojo and tia)......but then again it could be interesting.
I just take what ever cut of lamb I happen to have....this time was neck pieces.....I brown them then throw them in the pot and simmer until the meat is cooked. Let it cool down good to skim off all the fat (couldn't believe how much came off this one). You can do crock pot or dutch oven depending on how much time you have. Then I remove all the bones and return the meat to the pot....add barley....then I used (this time) carrot, celery, parsnips, chopped tomatoes with the juice, a can of pinto beans....salt, pepper, savory, thyme, a dash of ground cloves, a couple of dashes of worchestershire.........I just taste as I go, and add what ever herbs etc. I have that I think might improve the flavor at the time.....simmer until everything is done to my liking..........it is rarely ever the same thing twice.....and it is always better the second day!!!!
I've never had lamb. I don't think I've ever had barley either. Sheesh... I don't ever remember seeing any lamb at the meat counter in any grocery store I've been to. Am I living under a rock? or what?
niters girls soaked int eh tub and drank some more oj and took so,me amoixiciallin and am back to bed now ...everyone take care
Just popping in to say good night all. Sleep tight.
BJ, did you get the lake pump fixed?
Linda Kay
BJ, are you a Dirk Pitt fan too? Is this book a new one; can't remember that plot. Share the title. I love his stuff. The last one about the treaty giving us Canada was great and I thought of Betty when I read it. She could be part of us if that were true. Of course, already is part of us here in DG.
