Not the best picture, but there was a huge group of cormorants swimming together hunting for fish. This is a small section of some that had come up for air

Nice ones Mrs Ed! Glad you got to see nanny!

rn, I love those Black Skimmers too! First time I saw them I was so thrilled; their such a unique looking bird. Wonderful pics!

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

Wow, did you see them in NJ? (I didn't think they came that far North...)

Here is another new shorebird for me that Resin ID'd a few weeks ago - spotted sandpiper

Thumbnail by rntx22

Yes, I saw them in Cape May, the southern most tip.

Cool Sandpiper!

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

Ahhhh Cape May. Birders paradise. I'd like to go some day

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

It was great to meet Mrs. Ed yesterday. I wish we could have had more time to visit tho. Her mom was with her and i enjoyed meeting her too! The tamales were so good, wish you could have stayed and had some! I meant to have DH take a pic of us and I forgot!!! LOL

Unfortunately by the time Mrs. Ed got here it was getting late so there was not much to be see. But earlier I was in the front yard and had 3 Red-tailed Hawks fly over.

The first was being chased by a crow

The pics ARE NOT great okay! lol

A few minutes later a pair flew over! I thought that was pretty exciting since thursday night I had told a neighbor that I had not seen a Red-tailed for months.

Here's a Common Grackle, we've been having a few around lately.

Great pics everyone. Welcome back, Mrs Ed.

rntx, I had no idea the Skimmer beak was so narrow. I've seen them on wildlife documenaries numerous times, but have never seen a head-on shot before. Well done.

Beautiful shots today everyone...some birds I've never heard of! I love it here!!

Welcome back Mrs. Ed...so glad you and Nanny could meet. Your next vacation will be to the Ozarks I hope (and yes we have indoor plumbing)! LOL

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Rose! Yes, I already told my Mom that I'll be dragging her off to Missouri next year! "land of a million hummers"

Love those quail, adel.

Here's one of Nanny's ruby crowned kinglets. Sorry about the quality, it was getting dark and I am totally having trouble holding a camera I guess.

Fantastic birds rntx22, would like to someday, be able to see those shore birds.
Elphaba, Vireo is one I'm hoping to see here. They were around just haven't seen them yet. I'll have to wait for next Summer now. They decided to go visit you!!!

Nanny that is so neat to have 2 hawks in the same pic. I still have problems taking picture of birds in flight. Tried again yesterday, and they didn't come out.

Like how the color in the Grackle shines Pelle. Like the Starling, they are not my favorite birds, but they are still beautiful.
Adel, I have a bird associate with almost everyone here. And you it's the Quail, :)

A Goldfinch and a Chipping Sparrow, this afternoon.

Great start 2CDave! Titmice are so photogenic aren't they?
Burn, I saw a immature Hairy or Downy Woodpecker this morning. It lit on a light pole right outside my window and, of course, by the time I got my camera and came back...it was gone! Story of my life.
I saw my first White-throated Sparrow of the season, yesterday. It was hanging around with the cardinals. They're still kinda spooky but here is a pic...

Great pics everyone!

Mrs Ed, Isn't that a Warbler?

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Crazybirdlady, if you've got suet, they'll be regular at you feeder. I see them more often now. I think they spent most of the Summer in the woods. I've seen the downy a few time over Summer, but not the Hairy. I think they came back for the Winter. Don't give up on trying to get a pic, they'll sit still one of these days.;)

You had a great vacation Mrs. Ed...congrats on the pics!

Crazy...Burn is right about the Woodpeckers...they love suet!

Burn...you have quite a variety and I am anxiously awaiting the Redpolls!

This Pileated showed up this morning on the dead tree...I had to take this pic through the window.

Your so lucky Rose! Can't wait to see one.

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the advice, Burn, but I put out suet all last winter and never had a woodpecker eat it. Maybe this year they'll come.
Great pics of the Pileated, Rose. Such regal birds

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Pelle, oooh, I hope so! That would be a new addition.
