Daily Pics - Vol. 146

Stafford County, VA

Well, Volume 145 has reached it's capacity, and it’s time to tie a knot in that thread and start this new one. This Daily Pics series has been consistently top notch. I hope we can keep those great pictures and interesting comments coming.

We came from here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/912885/

I'll start with one of my favorite back yard birds, a song sparrow, in flight.

It's raining here this morning. Here is a female bluebird, peeking to see if there are meal worms left in the feeder.

Thanks for the new thread Dave and what a great start with your fantastic pics! I love them all but that last pic of the female BB is a heart tugger!

I was in our wooded area this morning and spotted this Juvenile Yelllow Bellied Sapsucker!!

Late yesterday I was in the upper hay field roaming around and spotted lots and lots of Bluebirds landing on the gates, trees and fences and then flying to the ground for insects! Here is one of the males!

Quoting:
White-winged and Mourning Dove

Looks like they've got a bit of mutual revulsion there, each saying "Keep away from me" to the other :-)

Great shots GP...I sure hope I get to see a Painted Bunting someday...they are so beautiful!

Wonderful start Dave, Titmouse is so sweet. Thanks
Congratulation on your Swamp Sparrow Rose,
Gp, if there's a bird I associate you with, it would be the Painted Bunting, such colorful birds. Thanks for sharing those pics with us.

Got a pic of a female Hairy Woodpecker today, hadn't seen it for a long time, Glad to see them coming again.

Thanks Dave..nice start! ALL the pics are great!

Just beautiful photos. I can't wait for the Goldfinches to come for the winter!

My Inca Dove found a new mate (or it's a completely different pair!) I was taking the picture of the one by the water and didn't even see the one above him laying on the rocks.

A Yellow-rumped Warbler...actually there are 2 in the pic!

Hi all, I'm back after a couple of days in Indiana, about an hour south of Nanny. I successfully stalked her and her birds and she gave me a tour of her warbler heaven. She also let me use her bathroom! Thanks for the hospitality nanny.

I did not get too many good shots while on vaca. I'm sorry to say that. I had really hoped to come away with several new life list birds. I DID stop at a nature center and caught some waxwing action. Here are some enjoying a drink with some finches.

They were pigging out on pokeberries too. this one flew to a tree to have a berry. Not such a great picture, but shows the yellow tip on the tail.

2d - love that titmouse! And I am so jealous of everyone's bluebirds. Grrr. What I would give to see a painted bunting... sigh.

elphaba - you stole my inca's! I haven't seen them in a while, I see they found you! By the way, do live on the corner of Durham and 22nd? I was driving through the Heights area yesterday and passed this cute house with gorgeous landscaping - all kinds of cool tropical plants that I have been lusting over. I thought of you, since I know you are in the Heights area.

Anyhow, here is a chickadee that has been hanging out for a few weeks. The first time I have seen one here! I just love them. So much attitude for such a small package!

Just a common mourning dove... but I liked how the picture shows his coloring. Pretty little things.

LOL! No, that's not me. I'll have to drive by and check out that garden though! I'm in a tiny house in Oak Forest just north of the Heights. I just got a new roof and gutters, so my plants have been trampled! Truth be told, it still looks totally overgrown!

I went on a pond tour a few years ago where I got to see some of the gardens in the Heights. That was so much fun. I loved seeing the gardens and the ponds!

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

OH man I AM SO EXCITED! I went for a walk by the lake earlier, with my camera of course in case I see something new.... and this is what I found! A BLACK SKIMMER, oh my God. Such a cool bird. I have been wanting to see one and there he was, chilling with the muscovy ducks. YAY!

Thumbnail by rntx22
Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

Here it is next to a muscovy for size comparison

What is really cool is when it looks at you his bill appears to vanish! It's so thin! From the side you would think it's a really big bill, but it is actually very thin. Crazy!

Ok I am calm now. Here's one of the regulars - great egret. Finally got a decent shot of one in flight. It is orange colored due to the sunrise.
