Morning Glories 2008 #22

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Very Unusual Purple-Flaked Shibori Vine.
This vine has many blooms that are the Solid White Flaked that I call 'Jamie Lynn',
and,
it also has White Blooms with Flecks in them

Ron, is that the correct way to describe that bloom
'Flecks'
???

I will find a better close up of one

Here you go.

Ron,
How do you describe this bloom?

Ron,
This does have BABY-BLUE and I can't remember if I tagged this bloom

These blooms are all from one vine and they are really showing off this year.

What a Show Off!

And many blooms, as you can see, are Solid White Flaked.
Most blooms are very Light
and
All so beautiful!

Emma -You specifically stated in this post here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5693326
that you had a "Pink Flaked Hige"...where is it (?)...

I like the lavender pink flaked one here

The 2 solid flaked here

http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/EmmaGrace_1224573458_49.jpg
are also very nice...

I would avoid using terms that are key descriptors for other types of patterns as this is almost certain to result in confusion
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5698181
although the bloom may look like it has 'flecks' in it...there is another type of genetic pattern =known as flecked and to avoid cross-confusion,let's reserve flecks for the flecked...and specks for the speckled...

I would suggest referring to the colored lines as colored *dashes*...as in Morse Code...be they long or short...

Hi Ron -

Thanks for the great information.
So tell me one more time because I still haven't gotten it.

Is this bloom a 'Flecked'?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5698181

Also, sorry - you clearly asked to see the 'Hige', and I missed that. duh!

Here are a couple of photos and I will see what it is doing this am for better shots.
I know you gave a very nice and detailed description of the difference in Higes/Feathered and Split-Petals that I haven't studied yet. I just yesterday noticed those postings. I have been calling this a Hige, but not sure yet. The back side is feathered, so I need to get more photos for you to tell me what this really should be called.

Also, there is a bloom on the same vine that is sometimes a Solid White, and sometimes a White with faint pale Pink in the bloom. This one is always a Split-Petal.

Both types of blooms
This White Split apears to be the Solid White

White with Very Pale Pink Split
Photo is not a good one

Back Shot of the White
I don't have a Back Shot of the Pinkish-Red, but will get one

Also, I have been cross-pollinating some of the Strawberry-Red Flaked to my Gypsy Bride Blooms to see what they will produce.

Any other suggestions on what would be good to Cross to get a fuller Hige Red Flaked bloom?

I do have about three different Pink Higes blooming. One is a Very Pale Pink, One is a Medium Pink, and one, Pink Flamingo, is a Deeper Pink that is a beautiful color.

Emma - I really like your white split petal blooms! Very pretty! Is this an I. purpurea? Would love to get 2-3 seeds of the white from you if at all possible. I want to use it to cross some of my vines. :-)

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Becky,

Yes, this is Ipomoea purpurea.

I am still waiting to hear Ron's input on this MG to know what to call it.

Two different blooms are on this particular vine, but I'll be very happy to tag some of the White Blooms for seeds for you.

Also, I will be very curious how they grow out too.

Emma, an amazing bounty of blooms. I'm in love with your white with soft
pink eye and the blue dashes as Ron called them. I was so
disappointed with my Carnival of Venice blooms except for the white
with pink throat. Mine did not have the blue dashes though and that's what
makes your bloom so lovely. I'm also amazed by your Carn of Venice vine that produced all those different patterns on one vine. I did have one
vine that produced a white and a patterned pink bloom out of Carn of Venice.

Thank you Jackie -

I will have plenty of seeds to share, so no worries.

That's wonderful. Thank you Emma.

Emma,

I don't think any of the photos that you have posted here are representing the flecked gene pattern

White Hige / Split Personality
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5699178
may be related or descended from the all white hige...with the tri-lobed leaves

Cross the all white hige with a very reddish flaked to get a fuller red flaked hige...

I had to send this in because we had to take the curtain down by the back porch to clean the gutters..;( *sigh* they were such a pretty site to gaze at without even going out the door>

Thanks for the info Ron.

I just went out to check my tag on that MG and the best I can figure out it is from one of my volunteer seeds that came up this year in my Hige group that I had growing together last year. I do have seeds from momcat of her White HIge, but haven't grown them yet. I will definitely grow them next year so I can work on doing my best to come up with a Red-Flaked Hige.

Thanks again Ron, VERY MUCH!

Debra -
Great photo. Don't you just love that Heavenly Blue MG.
