You might try the Farm Life forum. This forum is about growing pretty flowers to look at. There is a flowering tobacco called nicotiana, grown for its flowers and nice smell, but you said smoking tobacco, so you must be interested in growing the kind to make cigarettes and cigars. Somebody on the Farm Life forum could probably tell you if any tobacco farmers belong to Dave's Garden. Hope you get some good advice.

For the smoking variety ( Nicotiana Tobacum) this is a half hardy annual which means you plant the seed one year and it grows (tall, about 4-6 feet) the next year and flowers, it needs a really rich soil with lots of organic/manure added, grows in full sun to get the long pointed leaves for the tobacco collection, for more than one plant, you need to plant each plant about 3 feet apart, there are various types of the smoking tobacco plant so maybe someone else can help you which one is best for your needs, I have only ever grown the ornamental flowering type where I love the evening perfume. good luck.
