DAILY PICS Vol 145

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Well the last thread had some really extraordinary entries, so let's hope this one will continue with that. It's such a joy to see all these different birds from all over the world. The internet is a wonderful thing!

We came from here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/911795/

Here's one of the cygnets from Druridge Country Park.

One of a group of Muscovy ducks. I'm not sure what's going on with the wing feathers here.

And my favourite - the white goose.

One more swan - I love how they have their wings held like this.

Kniphofia, what beautiful swans. Are they Mute Swan cygnets?

Real hint of summer to come today and I headed first to the ocean. Pied Cormonant

Cropped to show detail. These Cormorants have the most beautiful sea-green eyes. I managed to get quite close, butt-shuffling my way across the large limestone rocks on the little groyne. Did wonders for my jeans.

Finally, I got too close, just as a wave smacked into the groyne. Almost a great shot. LOL

Then over to the river. The Black Swan cygnets are growing fast.

Over the weekend, I found this male Wood Duck among a few mallards. He followed them everywhere. No female Wood Duck in sight.

Yes, they're mute swan cygnets, it's amazing how quickly they grow. I love your black ones Margaret and those cormorants are fabulous. The wood duck is amazing! The titmouse is adorable.

Sue, beautiful start for the new thread!
Lovely pictures everyone and on the last thread too! Pelle, your kinglet pictures are just amazing!
GP, I almost drove into a turkey vulture on Sunday! It's wingspan was about as wide as my car! They are amazing.

Went to Lake Sheldon on Sunday and it was like something out of Silent Spring. Usually the herons and other water birds are making a lot of noise and flying around. There wasn't a single bird, frog -- nothing. I realized later that the storm surge from Ike filled the lake which was low from the drought with salt water and probably killed the food source for the birds. The ponds nearby are man-made and managed. They seemed OK with the same number of birds; however, there were a lot more alligators in the ponds. The lake birds must have flown off to better hunting grounds but the alligators had to find something nearby.

These White Ibis were by the ponds.
