water crystals in lawns

La Vergne, TN

Weenel your going to love this. Remeber several weeks ago I mentioned that a client of mine was going to get water crystals inserted into his lawn when it was plugged and reseeded? Well, I was up there the other day after it was down and WOW talk about a slip and slide. Just as we expected, the lawn guy just spread the crystals on the top with the grass seed. Now, in talking with Colorado state who did a ten year study on them, they stated that to be useful they have to be under the ground so the roots of the grass can grow threw and around them and so the soil can take water from them. They also said that when exposed to the sun the polymers quickly breakdown and vanish. I have to take a picture for you because I noticed them when I fell on my beep beep and saw them. Sitting beautfully on top of the blades of grass yelling hello to me. So, 20 people in NAshville TN got take for a rid and can actually do it if they run on their lawns, what a mess!

I have an opinion of both the customer and the "lawn guy," but I don't want to be kicked off Dave's.
Those crystals are dangerous even in containers outside. A lot of rain= no oxygen to roots= dead plants.
Why not just water when the plants need it?
For every seller, there's a sucker. Ask P.T. Barnum.

well, this client is just that. I don't understand him if I tell him something he has to ask everybody and their dead aunt as well, but if Joe blow has an idea he ask me after he's already said yes to it. This lawn guy is an idiot no doubt about it. I should never have spent all that money on college, I could have just gone to work for the idiot!

kitten, I'm tempted to say "Give 'em what they want," but I have a feeling you have too much integrity to do that. There is probably more quackery in horticulture than there is in medicine!

I told them a little more than that and it went a lot like beep beep beep and some more beep beep you beep beep. Only I was being really nice here. Thats why I get so mad, people want expert opions and then go with idiots, why bother us in the beginning?

Hi Bleeping Kitten, you did your best for the guy, he ignored your views on the Matter and there is another guy who is many dollars better off, we think the contractor was daft/mad, but you know what, he is probably daft for himself, in other-words, who's daft, the guy with the lawn or the guy with a fist full of dollars.
Now I want you to go visit the guy with the lawn and ask in a nice way how he is doing, how's the lawn baring up over the warm weather, and say "OMG what is that fungus you have on your lawn" I feel sure with all that water retaining stuff, he will get some form of fungus growing, the blades of grass will be sitting with wet stuff on it while the roots are as dry as old bones, just make sure when he asks you to come back and fix his lawn, you make sure it will be costly and advice ignored costs dollars, well in his case lots of them. I kind of feel sorry for him, he obviously felt the contractor new a thing about lawns and was convinced his lawn would be the talk of the town, well it sure is now eh. You could always offer him the use of your industrial carpet cleaner to suck up all the dried crystals he has, ha, ha, ha. You did good Kitten to get back to us, thank you for giving me a good laugh, your a star. best wishes. WeeNel.
