DAILY PICS Vol. 144

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi Everyone! Here is where we came from http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/910601/ .

As many of you know my computer was down for about 6 weeks...talk about withdrawal!! I never would have thought I could miss anything as much as I missed this forum!! It was awful not checking in everyday and seeing all of you and your birds!! This forum is my home and you all are my friends and family...and trust me I'm not a mushy type!! A special thanks to those of you who tracked me down and called me...what a blessing you all are to this old lady!

I would like to start off with a beautiful female Indigo Bunting I spotted in the walnut tree late last month. I thought the Indigo's were gone but have noticed the females and juvies are still here.

Everytime I see a Meadowlark I think of Mrs. Ed! We have tons of them now and they are in flocks and land in the dead tree many times a day and sing their hearts out! There are two of them in that tree at this moment singing!

The juvie Meadowlark's have been a crack up...can't sing worth a darn. This one opened it's beak and nothing came out!!

I am so happy to see the White Crowned Sparrows have returned. They love the many brush piles we have on the farm...here is a pair with a Field Sparrow!

The Killdeer have taken up residence around the pond...I have counted as many as 17 at one time. I took these late one day..you can see how they blend in with the background.

Last one for now...a wing wave from one of the beloved Eastern Bluebirds who come several times a day to check out their nestbox and eat the fruit and nuts I set out for them. I love these birds!

This was yesterday, it's back to being very dull today! A gull flew over casually, which one Resin? Normally Black-headed gulls inland around the lakes here.

This is a little bird I saw while in Montana last month. They were very cute - I just fell in love. The best ID I can come up with is Dark Eyed Junco (Oregon variety?)

It is very cute rntx! Someone will know what it is.

The male Greenfinch was even eyeing me up yesterday! They are becoming much more social, lol.

Thanks Resin! I have some video of them too, just got to get it loaded up on youtube and then I'll post the link.

Great start to the new thread dellrose. I know what you mean - you soon get withdrawal symptoms when you're offline!

There have been a family of mallard ducks in one of the quadrangles at work. The female started with 10 ducklings, she has successfully raised 6. They were just underneath one of the windows yesterday.

Great photos everyone. I love that Bluebird with the wings up!

My Anna's hummingbirds are all hanging around and aren't minding the high winds we've had the past two days.

I think this may be one of my young female House Finches since we have quite a few.

Here's another Anna's Hummingbird.

A Lesser (western) Goldfinch

Thanks Resin, I thought Common Gull too but what are they doing here. They must think it's winter, lol. Is this an immature bird? I can't see any white 'mirrors' on the tips of the wings. It was probably going to the neighbour's fish pond!

Fun entertainment while at work knip!

Brilliant shots ducbucln! I love the Goldfinch with it's setting.

I saw 3 Robins on the grass this afternoon, looked like they were about to have a battle but may be young ones practising, lol, looked funny. Very dull but can't help that! These two started, another was coming in to join in.

All puffed up trying to look big!

The Nuthatch turned up, many times! It has learnt to get the nuts from the gap in a hurry, sometimes swallowing one then doing what they do, head out, taking another to fly off with. Other times it would come and go in seconds, nuts went quick today!

Female Chaffinch turned up briefly, haven't seen one for ages. These are all dull as you get, dark grey skies!

Thumbnail by wallaby1
Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

An immature Goldfinch was there briefly too! You can just see the red patch starting to show on it's head.

The House Sparrow with the white breast and underwing was on the nuts when the Nuthatch turned up.

They both looked at the easy access hole

Sparrow takes back seat, lol, the Nuthatch has a sharper beak!

Later the female Great Spotted Woodpecker came! There was about 3 nuts left, after she went I put some more out as the poor little Blue Tits were left out! They sit and feed, unless they can get a small piece of nut. I haven't seen the GSW since she brought her baby.

Very nice, Pelle, they are adorable. They must be coming into your yard now...you said the other day they were in the lot behind you. Nice assortment of pretty birds in this thread so far. I have several pics to upload. I'll start with a pic I got of my first female Painted Bunting this fall. I got this one yesterday.
