Trouble with my Warnecki

Longview, TX

I bought this plant a few weeks ago. At first, I incorrectly identified it as a cast iron plant. After more investigation, I found it was a Dracaena Warnecki. When I first got it, it was fine. I left it outside under full sun for a few days and it started to turn brown like the pictures I will post. I have trimmed of the leaves that died, but it keeps turning brown. I have let the soil dry out before I watered it and have checked to make sure it has not been overwatered every time I water it. Can someone please help me? I really love this plant and dont want it to die.

When you put something that's not used to full sun in full sun, the leaves can sunburn, that could be what's happening, you need to adjust them gradually to higher levels of sun. Also Plant Files lists them as light shade or partial to full shade, so especially in TX, full sun is probably a very bad place for it. I think you need to find it a shadier location and hopefully the browning will stop.

After I noticed it was turning brown I brought it back in. It is now in away from the window but does get plenty of light. Maybe it is just going to take it awhile to get the green color back. It is starting to get more brown dead looking spots on it though.

The leaves that have turned brown won't go back to being green, you'll have to wait for new growth. Also there was probably damage done while it was out in the sun that took a while to show up so if it hasn't been too long since you moved it back inside that's probably why you're still seeing spots show up.

Dracaena Warneckei: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/119595/ does not like sun at all. This plant does best in lower light conditions.

The plant is probably still in shock from being in full sun but over time should recover and grow new foliage.

Would it be better to just keep the leaves on or cut them off? Will it matter either way.

If they've still got some green on them I'd leave them alone, but any that are completely brown aren't doing anything to help the plant so you could cut them off if you want.

Thank you both so much for your help. I really appreciate it. Hopefully, I didnt do too much damage and it will be ok!
