Majestic, maternal mystery plant. Can you ID?

Brooklyn, NY

I acquired this plant two years ago when I interned at a legal non-profit. The story was that a secretary brought in a plant decades before that self-propogates from seeds that fall from brown seed pods. The offspring of that plant are now scattered all over the office, making babies of their own. The rooted pieces I brought home in a jelly jar have grown into a sizeable plant. She has spear shaped leaves that grow along vining stems in wacky pineapple formations. Tiny white flowers dry leaving brown seed pods that fall into the pot and sprout. Leaf tops are green, undersides are a lovely purple. Lower leaves yellow and die over time. Any thoughts?

Definitely a Tradescantia. I have the same one and I got it identified as a wandering jew

Wow, you guys are fast! Yes, I agree that's it's Moses in a Basket. Amalie, the picture you linked to didn't make me sure, as that plant had no seed pods and they're such a prominent feature on mine. But I googled the name and found a 2003 picture from this site showig a Moses in a Basket exactly like mine, growing outdoors.

I'm so glad I finally joined and posted. Now as I give offspring of my Moses away, I can tell friends what they're getting.

Glad I was able to help. I love them, had one and it died, don't know why. I hope to get another one soon....

Blessings,
Amalie
