and what is this loser bit???...I think not girl get that thought out of your head right now

Oh boy Stacy are they in for a ride if we are 2 peas in a pod ...ROFL
I did notice though that we all have at least one if not two of the things in common so we balance each other out and complement each other too LOL

now my w3ise and wonderful sistahs...I need advice.
I have all the quilt squares pieced together and am ready for the next step.....I could put them all together right next to each other but that would not be big enough to cover a queen sized bed.
so should I cut out 6" squares to place in between them and then run a strip between each row?

And if I do a square of plain fabric between each square I was thinking a pattern of some kind count be put on them
but what to put with the friend ship star???
I am thinking I would do my first quilt by stitching around each square and each triangle ...make sense?

well, this head isn't going to let me read any more, and I only got a few spaces done this page -

jaye- if no one wins the cactus can I have some? mine died - I put it outside like always, and it got moved into a corner when I was potting things up...well, it got forgotten and not watered enough it's toast. Love love love Christmas cacti - my very first ever houseplant.

and thanks for the hints on the gravy. That's how I make white sauce, make roue first. wouldn't have thought of cooking it longer to make it dark.

jordankittyjo, I forgot to write that those chicks are just adorable.

my blasted head wouldn't let me go to the parade. Luckily, I've got a real estate license, never use it, but tada! the Parade homes are open to agents on tuesday morns, no public crowds! so I might go to a few then. And my head wouldn't let me enough Ruth's soccer game out in the bright sunlight. went late, after she'd started the game, stayed until my stomach started to flip about ten minute before the end, then got in my truck and drove (a mistake by the way) to Zebulon to a new horse ranch (only 5 acres). They have a lot of horses (just lost use of some of their acres) and the gal there even helped me load up 1/2 the truck bed with aged manure. Hope it's not too green, but it's turned into powder, so I'm hoping it's ok...

I'll go back for fresher manure next week to add to my compost pile, because I've negotiated with her to teach Ruth horseback riding in exchange for Ruth weeding her garden, picking up branches in the yard, and mucking out the barn. And I get lots of manure. AND GUESS WHAT - SHE HAS A GREEN HOUSE being used as a junk storage shed. can you imagine? it's just the right size for MY house!! and a "water furnace" that heats it. wish I had the $$ to buy it from her!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Kim, listen to all the voices of experience here!! You are definitely worth more and please don't keep putting yourself down. We love you sistah!!! Come to us that is what we are here for!!

Phyllis how big are the squares you have now? 6 inches? Could just add a border to each block/square and enlarge it that way? Just thinking out loud.

Well Tinky, you, Phyllis and myself are easy riders. Not really sure just what that means!!!

Bon I am so sorry you get these headaches. I used to have them like that but ages has stopped them. Thank goodness for something getting older has done!!!

Linda Kay, I do have a pattern somewhere but I am not sure where. Basically it is 2 lenghts of fabric --I get 3 1/8 yards as I make mine longer--cut 1/2 yd off each piece to use for the pocket. I use the wide. Cut a piece of batting the size of the pocket and put on back side of one piece of fabric. Place fabric right side together, stitch leaving a place to turn. Stitch 1/4" in from edge after turned. Do the same with the 2 remaining lengths of fabric but omit the topstitching when turned. Center the pocket over one end and stitch in place. Measure off stitching lines, stitch then fold and stuff into pocket.

Could you follow that?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I was looking at the site I got the pattern from ..they have several ways you could do it

http://www.quilt.com/HowTo/SettingsPage.html
was looking at mixing the Straight Set with Alternating Plain Squares and the Straight Set with Sashing that way I could get it larger to lay over the top of a queen size bed

this is where I got the idea of putting something on the plain squares
http://www.taunton.com/threads/pages/t00085.asp

http://www.taunton.com/threads/pages/t00030.asp
this link talks about how to quilt by hand ...etc

and what is a qwillow?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Phyllis, I'll do what Marion suggests. 6 inches will be better showcased with 'frames' of different solid colors around it (if the stars are printed fabric). If you're doing a plain white square, it might just not bring out your stars. Then when you got the desired size, then do sashings in between the pieces.

A quillow is a lap quilt that could be folded into a pocket already sewn.
When it's folded, it acts as a pillow, when unfolded you rest your feet in the pocket. Perfect for long cold trips.

Wow Bon, seems like a win win situation for Ruth and you and of course your plants. Don't you think you should see a doctor for those headaches?

Marion, it's gonna be a warm week next week, I can hear the mosquitoes already making plans!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I saw the weather tonight and couldn't believe it. Where did our cooler nights go? I am trying to get some more done in the yard as it is really botherine me now. Noticed this afternoon that there are 2 more trees down in the back than I thought there were. One more time I am going to call a company and hopefully the 3rd one will work!! This is getting to be depressing with no one coming!!!

Kim has to have some lab work done tomorrow so we are going to do our running on the east side of town. Don't usually go there unless we have a reason as it take so long through traffic.

Going through our kitchen and getting rid of duplicates, at last!!! Humane Society is having a garage sale and I can't think of a better place right now to donate it. Helps take care of the animals so that it pleasing to us.

Off to be, will have to go early as no eating or coffee until after lab work done. Will chat with everyone tomorrow. Sleep well.

Good luck deciding Phyllis.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I got to go to bed.. :(
Well, Kel managed to put up the front frame. Yippee... All by himself too, for under a day :D
I managed to take a fall :( How did I do that?? Tripped over my new pair of tennis shoes which are one size larger than usual, bought with thoughts of swelling feet.
Darvocet's doing its' work.
Kim, don't be afraid to speak here. We are all here for each other.
You know why God chose us to bear kids don't ya ;)

Good night my sistahs!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

some of the starts are printed some are plain solid colors
I do want them to show up nicely but to pick a solid color to go around each one ...gee ...mmmmmm

will have to think on it or dream perhaps is the right word LOL
thanks for suggestions girls

sleep well sweet dreams

now I've read more - I said I'd bet she'd not make it 3 days - when was that and what day would it be? I'll bet an iris.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Goodmorning everyone. Hope you all had a great week-end. Jaye, sorry to hear you took another fall. Hope your not hurt too bad. You gotta be careful.
Funny joke. Thanks for the Monday morning smiles.

Good Morning Glory!!
LK and Trisha, I try my very best not to go around 'damaging' myself. Sometimes your attention went elsewhere at my age!
Poor kitty Cindy.
Start of a warmer week today. Yes Marion, we'll miss the cooler less bug days. Oh well, got to get me another anti-bug spray. The only brand that works for me is "Bite Blocker". Used to I could just tuck in a sheet of Bounce on my clothing or under my hat, and the scent drove them away. Now they want my blood. Another method is slathering myself with Baby Oil, and that dries up fast in the sun.
Phyllis, if some of your stars are solids, then of course you'd choose something to contrast them. Stripes, checks...
Have a blessed day everyone.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Good morning! I wondered where everyone was yesterday. YOU weren't missing ... it was ME! I missed the jump to the new thread. TAG - YOU'RE IT!

Kim, I'm sorry you are having such tough times. 17 years is a long time to invest in a relationship but that doesn't necessarily mean it was worth it. Is counseling a possibility? At least you would know if there is something that can be worked out or if you need to do what's best for yourself and start fresh. I agree with everyone else - trust is crucial in a relationship.

Forgot to take the test before starting this post. Off to do that now ..... can almost guarantee it will come back something like this:

HABITS: Mostly bad
SOCIAL: Do dogs count?

Ok, done.

MOOD: Sophisticate (that's hysterical)
FUN: Thriller

well, my head just has to get better because I don't know who's having man trouble and what test I've got to take!

Men: I chose so horribly for my first one that I had to promise my whole family that everyone got a vote on any "next" one I wanted.
And sure enough, when he came along I wasn't paying all that much attention and both my mom and my baby sister had to tell me to turn around and pay attention to this one! They were right, he is the sweetheart of my soul.

But Sister, if your man wants to leave, just know he's losing the best thing that ever he had, and that there are better ones out there. Momma always said, "if he won't stay, through him back, there's a lot more fish in the sea" and she oughtta know, she used to date 3 a day!

my head is trying to get worse. Again. just being gentle with myself today.

Raleigh, NC

by the by, what was for breakfast? hmmm

Morning Glory! thought it was too late to ge tthat in before.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Breakfast du jour is whatever's in your fridge, Bon!
My mum used to say, "Your man ain't yours till he's 6 ft. in the ground!"
Poor mum, dad used to stray on her!!
Are you starting on your rag quilt today, Debra? You'll get it finished in no time.

Raleigh, NC

^_^ leftover waffles, then. or cherrios. or banana nut bread. or....

maybe if I finally eat this head will get better? no, that went the other way yesterday. maybe I'll fast.

your mum was smart, Jaye. And all this quilt talk is making me itch to get out my sewing machine. repeat after me: must plant first must plant first must plant first.....

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Mum was singin' the blues then ;)

Raleigh, NC

has y'all noticed that the younger gals can't sew a stitch? I taught my oldest to sew about the same age as her sister. Neither of them has a girlfriend that can sew! we used to have to take home ec, but it's not required, or desired, around here now.

Nana sewed for a living, doing alterations. Mom used to design my prom dresses (not to my taste, but that's another story). when I lived in Idaho, there was no food for my brain, so I learned to sew swimsuits and quilt.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Bon, what's causing your headaches? Do you know? How long have you been having them? Seems you have them often enough to see a doctor.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

umm what do you call younger? meaning anyone not in here ??? ROFL
I started sewing in school and made my first pant suit in Jr. High and when I wore my hair in a bun the cafeteria ladies thought I was a student teacher and offered me the teacher discount ..LOL

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

That's scary, Phyllis. Sounds much like me. My grandmother taught me to sew in junior high school and I made my own clothes after that.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Which thread were we talking about the 4 o'clock seeds and plants? Kathy, I didn't collect many seeds this morning but it looks like there are a bunch ready to open any day. I'll collect as many seeds as possible this week then pull (scratch that - replace with 'dig') the plants this weekend. I'll send you some of both.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I thought it was funny but I never took the discount silly me LOL

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

My mom made sure to teach me to sew as soon as my legs were long enough to reach the foot feed. I was about 6 years old, and sat on the edge of the chair... made a hankercheif blouse... remember those? Then she had me learn to cut things out from a pattern, and I guess I was about 10 when I finally made a whole top all by myself. When I was in high school, my chosen garment for Home Ec was an a-line dress with a zipper up the back. The teacher tried to talk me out of it. But I made it anyway, and she was pleased with the results... got an A on sewing, but I made a D in the course... I just couldn't figure out WHY I needed to keep a notebook on sewing... ugh.

Yea, Bon... you have a lot of headaches... see a doctor, please.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Does a rag quilt have a backing and batting like a regular quilt, or is it just a bunch of squares sewn together like the purses?
So many ideas here, and it is going to keep me busy for sure. But I am taking a break this week-end. Going to spend it with BJ for the round up!!!! ^_^ I can't wait. Wish you all could be there.
