Someday I want to try the Polyneura again, I really like the looks of the foliage and the flower on that one. If I try growing that one again I will have to keep it inside the house in air conditioning! I guess it was just waay too hot out on my deck for that one ... it didn't last long at all in the heat and humidity down here!
October Hoyas
The red centers look like rubies. It's on top ofthe TV console and when I watched a DVD tonite I kept looking at the bloom-very distracting!
I had mine outside hanging under a tree on the north side for the summer. It got too much rain and cold-down to the high 30s before it came in. Now it's in 65-70 degrees F and it's so happy to be warm that it bloomed!
Yummy! I have a baby retusa. Love the peachy color!
Carol, beautiful flowers. I especially like the wibergiae with the flecked leaves and the ichnopus.
propmaker, your thomsonii is also beautiful.
I'm gonna add them to my list, which pretty soon will reach the ground. LOL
Beautiful. My linearis is all dried up. Drat.
Aw rats, Kathy. :( Next spring I will send you some more (providing, of course, I can keep this one alive and kicking through the winter). I put this one outside where it had to suffer the elements and it seemed to thrive. It lived through days of hundred degree temps, getting watered every other day by the sprinkler system and direct afternoon sun. Who'd a thunk it!! Seems as though it isn't the prima donna it's made out to be. OR... I'm just lucky!
There are three more umbels getting ready to open. I can't wait!
Barb
Barb, mine looks only a bit drier than yours so I don't think it's dead yet. I'm going to water once a week. Just a little bit. Is that what you suggest or less?
You've moved it inside, right? I would keep it on the dry side during the winter months. Try misting it when you do your orchids and see how that does for a couple of weeks. If it shows any sign of decline, you might try watering it from the bottom instead of the top. Hope this helps.
Barb
Those who have their H. nummularoides lush and blooming....do you grow it dry in low light? I keep killing mine!!!
Carol, mine was doing great in the shade and dry. After the water damage from the storm, it's not doing too great. : (
Jan
Carol, same goes here for the nummularoides... shade and watered every ten days or so. High humidity here, of course. Don't know if it is the depth of shade or not, but mine seems to be behind everyone else's in blooming schedule. I just today had the first umbel open and most of the others are miniscule in size. HTH
Katie, that meliflua is beautiful. Is that H. meliflua ssp fraterna?
Barb
Nice leaves on the Lacunosa. Is that 'Snowcap' ? I might have the cv. name wrong there, by the way.
Dominic
Thanks...I had a feeling I was being too nice to mine!!!!
Wow, Sunshine, you have quite a few beauties blooming right now! I am adding that H. obscura to my "wish" list ... the foliage and bloom on that one are stunning, one of the prettiest I've seen thus far! Love it!
Kathy, gorgeous lacunosa. I've never seen one with leaves like that.
Jan, those are some beautiful blooms! Wow... October is a great month for Hoya lovers.
:)
I got this lacunosa from HD a few years ago. No idea about whether it's 'Snowcap.'
Beautiful flowers and photos! I have NOTHING in bloom right now...
