2008 Photo Contest

What a wonderful idea! Silly ol' me got all teary just thinking looking at a calendar full of Trois wonderful pictures.

The calendar is going to be dedicated to Trois, but as I understand it the pics at least for the 12 months will be the winners of this year's photo contest.

Yes, but we may make the cover photo on the calendar be a photo from Trois.

HOW ABOUT A MEMORY GARDEN PAGE ON THE INSIDE BACK COVER? That way, we could recognize any and all DGers who have passed within the last 12 months?

I like that idea Gymgirl. I was thinking perhaps those that got the calendar would wonder why just trois got a tribute when there were a few others that passed this year. They may not know of trois passion with photography so it natural to include him and dedicate it to him so perhaps small short list toward the back as you say.
Then again, this could just get too complicated and maybe leaving it as is with the tribute to him as an inspiring photographer would be fitting for the calendar of photos. Otherwise, where do you draw the cut-off dates too? We hope we don't loose anymore of our valued contributing members but if we do after the print date then of DG would wonder why they weren't included as well.

I love the idea of having the cover image be a photo that Trois took. A short explanation about his passing and his passion for photography and for DG could probably be worked in. And perhaps a mention of the Memory Garden could be included with a general comment about remembering or honoring all members we've lost... if you don't try to have an inclusive list of names, you don't have to worry about cut-off dates etc. But I think simply dedicating it to Trois (and mentioning why) would also work fine.

Oh well, that's what I get for not taking time to read more of the thread. All teary eyed for nothing. LOL I do feel that Trois deserves a little tribute in the form of at least one month, the front cover or back cover or something though.

I feel the one cover photo from a long time photo contributor, with his name and the year of his passing is enough. I know we have others that we would like to see honored, but it is a photo contest result calendar. This is also put on the Zazzle website where it can be purchased by anyone; so I don't think we need to have a list of names there. Also consider the possibility of leaving someone off of the list, or some not wanting their family member's name there.

I was contemplating the vertical photos and a thought came to mind.
Just a thought mind you.

Let's say two vertical photos received first place.
Couldn't they be placed side by side and share one month of the Calendar.
This would leave lets say the back of the calendar for the tribute to TROIS.
Or
The cover of the calendar.

I had the same thought!

That would also solve the formatting problem of what to do with the vertical photos... They would look a little lonely in the middle of a page, I think.

Last year's calender, the Dec. winner was vertical.
Kin's idea may be nice if the pictures were some what related, otherwise it may look like they were crammed in somewhere just to fit.
I'm sure we'll come up with a member voted workable solution.

If the photo is a winner, I am sure staff will find a way to acknowledge it. So many good pics this year. If I had entered, I doubt I would be voting for mine.
