Hello all. I have some questions or better yet need some advice on planting my newly acquired shrubs. I purchased some Viburnums (Blueberry muffin, brandywine, winterthur and soon cardinal candy) as well as 2 nandina domesticas to attract birds to my backyard in addition to my bird feeders. What I plan to do is to plant the shrubs in the center (an island like) of my back yard just in front of my screened in porch and just in front of 2 Autumn maple trees in the back of the yard. I want to plant the shrubs in a mass with the largest growing shrub in the center and the lower growing shrubs to the edge while at the same time tying in the Maple trees into the new lanscape design. I read that these bushes are good for borders, hedges and ornamental. What I want is to be able to sit on the porch and watch the birds and take pictures too. The screened porch is 16x12 with a small gazebo in front.
I know what border and hedges mean but what does ornamental mean? I assume it means to plant by itself.
Can anyone tell me if I'm heading in the right direction or for trouble?
By the way I am in Southern Maryland - Zone 7-8.
Thanks for any insight. I wish I had a picture of the back yard but if needed I can get one.

Landscape ? using Viburnums
Ornamental means 'for looks'. Ornamental 'grasses' are for interest, variety and texture. An ornamental bush would be used for the same reason.
Here is a Mature (?15 year) Viburnum Shrub that is wias a fabulous spring showcase 2'x15'???. I also have some other Viburnums along with other rather old cottage wildlife plants and shrubs.
DM me if you like.
