First time roses

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello all,
I just bought a mini-rose bush and it is my first time to work with roses. I live in a rent house, so I prefer not to plant it in the ground until I am in a permanent place. So, can anyone help me with tips on how to grow roses?
How big of a pot should I use (the plant is currently about 1 foot tall)?
What type of soil should I use (I currently have an all purpose flower mix)?
I have a spot that is full sun in the afternoon and evening - is this appropriate?
I know at some point I need to do major pruning - is this at the beginning of winter or after the last frost?
Thanks!

Miniature Roses need lots of sun (at least six hours) and very well-drained soil or they tend to rot. It's easier to not over-water them if the pot you choose isn't much bigger (maybe 2-3 inches bigger) than the diameter of the existing root ball. Flower mixes tend to be mostly peat which will hold too much water so don't use any more than half of that stuff for your potting. The other half (or more) should be a tree/shrub planting mix. Miracle-gro makes one that's suitable (I tend to hate MG products but that's the only brand I know you'll be able to find).
Once the rose is potted you shouldn't have to do anything but water it when it wilts (remember not to get the leaves wet) and prune off the dead bits in late winter.
