Can you guess this word?

Beverly Hills, CA

I was at a garden center today, on one of the label on a plant, it had something like "it won't xxxt", I didn't have a pen, so i didn't write that word down. and now i forgot how to spell it.

It is not "wilt", it is definitely a 4 letters word, the last word might not be t, I am not very sure. I wonder if anyone knows, this could be fun. =)

rust?

if it's not a "T" at the end....fade

Beverly Hills, CA

no, it was used to describe a plant, which is probably better than others. it could be something like bolt, wolt, etc? i don't remember.

Bolt sounds plausible. Some plants like ornamental cabbage want to send up a long bloom spike, which is not a good thing because once they bloom and make seed their purpose for living is done and they die. Coleus, caladiums, and other foliage plants often try to do this too.

I looked up the online dictionary, bolt has so many meanings, what does it mean here?

Woodway, TX(Zone 8a)

I told you.

"Bolt" when referring to a plant (most commonly a veggie or herb, I guess) is when it send up a flower. When this happens, the plant then goes to seed and spends all its energy on that, rather than making more of its useful leaves.

Maybe you need to go back to the garden center and don't forget your pen.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Do you remember what plant it was on? Or at least a general idea (shrub, perennial, vegetable, etc)? That might help people come up with more guesses.

Why has this question taken on such significance? Did you buy the plant? Go back and ask them what the mysterious word on the tag was. Scan the tag and see if one of us can figure it out so this will be over and done with.

people, there is no need to get unfriendly. i will be diagnosed with OCD if I will drive back to that store again just so I can find out which word was on that tag.

And it is probably bolt. Even if it is not that word, i learned something new.

Just ignore the "unfriendly" ones.

Woodway, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah, there are some real vicious people on this site. Just ignore them.

I laughed.

So what kind of plant was it?

If you found lettuce or broccoli that won't bolt, we need the vendor's name and web address. :o)

The photo is of my bolted romaine lettuce. Elegant, isn't it? But once this starts happening, the leaves turn bitter and you don't want to eat them.

Oh, and if you're in a situation where you need a pen and don't have one, don't forget about the Notes utility on your cell phone. Super useful but most of us forget that we have it.

Jumping in to say that if you have a camera on your phone, that's helpful as well. It helps me remember what I saw.
