My Aster plants are two years old and they haven't bloomed yet. They are in sun and are growing well but they just don't bloom. Also how do I cut them back for winter prep? I live in zone 3-4.
Thanks
Asters
I live in zone 5b and the asters are just beginning to bloom here. I would think you would follow by at least a couple of weeks. Do you see buds forming? I know on an aster, the buds are small, but you should be able to see them by now. As for getting them ready for winter, I just cut them back to about 3" from the ground after they're finished flowering. I don't know what the correct way is, if there is one. I'm sure you will get some good advice from someone pertaining to that. I hope you see flowers soon. Without asters, there's not a lot of flowers blooming this time of year.

Thanks Chris. I do see little buds. Hope springs eternal.
Judithal, just keep your fingers crossed that this spell of warmer weaher continues and doesn't turn cold enough to freeze before they flower. That's the problem with late flowering plants in our area, sometimes they get a chance to perform for us, sometimes nature says sorry not this year.
I actually saw a few beautiful purple blooms yesterday! Thanks
Yay!!!!!!
