Hi
I was wondering if now is a good time to transplant my Lilacs. There about 6 years old and Im in Zone 7 or 8.
Thanks a bunch
Tim
Can I transplant Lilacs?
Here, in zone 5b, they say to transplant lilacs in early to mid spring. I break the rules a lot on transplanting, but can't say that I've ever tried to transplant a lilac any other time of year. I do know they are easy to transplant - they quickly rebound. You said "lilacs" so I assume you have more than one. I'd give one a try and see how it does. Good luck with that.

I'm a beginner gardener who watched her mom and dad putter for years. They have never obeyed the rules and things seem to always work out for them. I've heard that if there's at least 6 weeks before the first frost (does it frost in CA?), and you water well things should turn out okay. But then again, I'm a beginner gardener so take it for what it's worth.
And as a matter of fact, I just transplanted a lilac today! It is a lilac I thought I had killed two years ago. I inherited two lilacs (Korean I think) when I bought my house. They were pretty leggy so I pruned 'em back pretty hard as I've heard others have done with success. But, last summer, no green. I was too tired to dig them out so I left them there. Lo and behold, this summer one of them sprouted some green. I let it do it's thing all summer and then decided to move it to a sunnier location in the yard today. So far it's doing great :-) Cross your fingers it makes it through the MN winter and brings me fragrant blossums next spring.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
