Hi everyone. I need some help. At the moment I dont have a veg patch and am going to start one this autumn. My question is where do I site it? I have a lot of land (2 acres) and lots of choices where to put it. What are the things I need to consider? I have thought of a couple of obvious ones like proximity to house and water supply, but I am not sure of what else I need to think of.
Where do I grow my vegetables???
With 2 acres you might want to have some soil samples taken to determine placement unless you are going to use raised beds and lots of ammendments. Proximity to water is important. Sun is a huge factor. Some things like full sun others some shade, so you'll probably end up w/ a few beds in different areas. Do you need to worry about fencing, dogs, neighborhood animals, wild animals etc.
I'd start by contacting your local agricultural extension office.
Also consider drainage. You want a well-drained site, not a place where water stands.
Some more tips. Les
