I feel like a dummyhead, but I can't figure out how trading works here. I can browse trade lists, but what do I do next? I sent D-mail to one person who had something I wanted but never heard back so maybe that wasn't the correct procedure. I read the FAQs and the primer, but none of the info there actually lays out the first steps to trading -- the contact. I love Dave's Garden, but I admit I have a hard time figuring out the logistics of use. I guess the way my brain is wired it just doesn't seem intuitive.
Question about how trading works
There is a very recent article about seed trading for newbies that may help you get started:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1505/
Normally dmail would be a perfectly fine way to ask someone if they want to trade, but there are a number of reasons why you might not have received a response to your dmail in this particular case. The person could be on vacation, cleaning up from a hurricane, or just busy with work/life for a few days and hasn't been around (that's probably the most likely reason for not getting a response). Or it could be it was a tradelist that someone put together ages ago and they're no longer really active on the site. Or if you were trying to trade for postage instead of seeds/plants, some people are more than happy to do things that way, but others don't like to trade unless you've got plants/seeds that they want. Most of the time people would probably send you a dmail back explaining that, but if someone has some popular plants/seeds that everyone wants and they are getting tons and tons of trade requests, it could be they don't have enough time to respond to everyone.
Thanks for the input! I guess I'll just try again another time, at least I know it's OK to D-mail.
