This one really shows the scrape lines.

Even on a rise you can see it. All the little dimples are known as 'chatter', resulting from the glaciers scraping the rocks with smaller rocks that move along and scrape at regular intervals.

The view from Bald Rock - the highest spot in the park - over 1400 feet. Those are the Catskills in the distance.

More - looks like an alien landscape.

Cool erratic - about five or so feet in diameter. This area had a huge fire in '88 and you can see the burn marks on the rock.

Shelter - check out the walls - they are made with huge slabs and mortared. I'd like to see the gorilla who did this work!

Great views Victor and Louise.
Love the woods this time of year.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, very nice shots both of you.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

victor--

I am totally awed seeing all those stones and outcrops. It is like another World!

If I was there--I would be walking around in a trance.....So many tales to tell--and no one left to tell it. The footprints a glacier leaves behind is amazing! If one DOES understand the hows and whys and whens of it all--it sure adds to the mystery.....

Nice pictures---I wish i was there!

Thank you.Gita. It is a privilege to hike in that area.

In the beginning of this thread, someone mentioned the erratic that is right in the middle of the road in the town of Dublin, NH. On our way home from Candyce's RU, we went through Dublin and I got a shot of the erratic.......pretty cool, huh?

Great, thanks.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool. I'll try to get one from a shopping center near me. It's the biggest erratic around - bigger than anything in the park.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Would love to see that one, Victor!!

Had two bunk-beds! That's not my autograph on the front.

Yeah, right, Victor! (wink, wink). That penmanship looks identical to the spelling of your name on the bunk beds in a prison I was in not too long ago.

So, do you think the bears bring their own mattresses when they use these shelters in the winter???

Cool shots!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. Actually we're seeing lots of bear poop these days.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

We are too. No moose around here lately though.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Bear poop?
I thought we couldnt discuss current events or politics.

Wow Vivtor that is one great picture.
Do you think it was one big rock that fell and broke?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Could be. Most of the them looked the same - color, texture, etc.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I saved it as my desktop, might paint it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Please post if you do.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I keep a file of images"Paint this" for paintings ,so this winter I go over things and have ready resources.
It will be awhile.
Rocks are hard to paint surfaces are so subtle yet forms are strong and dramatic.Your pic has great contrasts too.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

ge1836,

Great idea--saving pictures you like to paint!

Also great idea to set this as a desk top---I did too.
Now I have to go back and see what other beautiful, magnificent, glorious, geological, amazing, unbelievable, inspiring, one-of-a kind, hmmmm...running out of adjectives.....
previous rock shots you have shown us.

victor--you should start a booklet with all your rock photos in it. Then--you can also add the photos, you especially like, that others have posted.

WHAT a calendar that would make! You could sell it! Call it "Rocks of Ages"....

Gita
