Interesting stress fractures in that one, Celeste. Very cool.
Stones, rocks, boulders and erratics 3
Way cool!
I love that rock.

If anyone is passing through Dublin, NH, on their way to the RU at my house, you might want to stop and photograph the huge erratic in the middle of Main Street (Route 101). I know that Louise had mentioned that one before, and I just haven't gotten there to snap a photo.
Candyce doesn't the center of Dublin have old rock walls and stone buildings as well?
It sure does. The whole place is just one gorgeous layout!
I will have to make a point and stop and see that boulder, Candyce.
Karen
lol, Victor, you are toooo much. I bet the boys were impressed , though, with Dad's ninja-like warrior skills.
Yes, nice stream.
Thanks, Jan. I did it with my head and I'm posting from the ER.
heehee
Victor, we'll just change your name to "Rockytop"!
Martha
lol
Or Fred Flintstone!
Very nice shots, Victor! Lots of leaves down on that outcropping, huh? Looks like it was a really nice hike!
Thanks, Louise. It's still very early here. Peak is still weeks away. It was a very nice hike.
I think we'll have an early peak here. Most of our maple leaves are already on the ground, but I understand that our maples are suffering from a disease that is similar to the Dutch Elm disease that destroyed most of the Elms in the region. I saw a piece on a NH station talking about how there is no foliage color yet this year. We can't believe that. There is so much bright color in this area already. The reds and yellow and oranges are quite bright already.
What disease, Louise? (Rhyme not intended!) You don't have that rhino beetle there do you?
they said a fungus on our news tonight
We have color out along rte 128 which circles around Boston. I was just noticing it today. Lots of my norway maple leaves are brown and down. Usually they are bright yellow. and it's too early. but they have really been socked in recent years by winter moth. some of my oaks were pretty badly stripped too. but the oak leaves are like iron compared to the maple. what parts of the leaves remain on them are still green and would be for a while yet. Oaks are the last to go.

Victor - I'm not sure of the details, but it is quite noticeable here. We have a large sugar bush just beyond our "treehouse porch", and the leaves that are usually very beautiful were gone before they put on their show. We are quite concerned about the line of 200-year-old huge maples that run across our front yard. So sad.
There is a disease that's killing maples? How awful! What next? Too many trees are succumbing to diseases and insects.
Karen
Wow - how awful.
here is an article I found... don't think it's killing them.. just bad leaf color

That's good news.
Boy, I hope that is the one! What we were told up here sounded much more serious - similar to the wooly adelgid destruction of the hemlock. So, I am so hopeful that we have only the leaf fungus issue. That would be a huge "Whew!" for us - and for lots of other people as well! Thanks for linking that article, Allison!
We are off to Amherst tomorrow for the game. The leaves should be turning out there as well. I will try to get some pictures.
Martha
When the sun peeked out yesterday, the colors were very pretty around the lake. I want to get some photos today. If I can, I'll post some for sure.
Great picture
What can I say, but 'wow!'.
Candyce - that's pretty much what I say everytime I drive by it. It is so awesome!
Very nice, Louise. I'll be posting some later from my hike this AM.
