Woodpecker at the suet feeder.
Daily Pics Vol. 137
gp, is that a longer tail feather on the grackle? Nice shots.
I just spoke to Rose. She thought she'd be back on line yesterday, but is having ongoing problems with the computer. She said to say hello to everyone and is missing the DG community like crazy. She's taken lots of photos which of course she can't even see herself, except on the little screen on the camera. She still has her Bluebird family in residence and lots of Hummingbirds. She also saw a Pileated Woodpecker yesterday when she & DH were taking the dogs for a walk.
This is a Stilt I took at the swamp yesterday.
Oh how CUTE. In formal wear!
Darn it! Am I going to have to drive down to Rose's and fix her computer? Maybe I'll just take mine and move in for a while.
Margaret, What a lovely picture of the Rainbow Lorekeet's...I would like to have that one on a wall.
It sure sounds as if she is building a birders paradise!
Mrs Ed, Can you keep heading SE and visit me for some photography and computer lessons? ;-)
ha. yah birdie. maybe i should just take a few months off
OH yes, I will fix up the guest room extra special for you. Maybe you can catch the cedar waxwings devouring my holly tree!
Mercy! that must be a lot of birds, + Cranes are pretty large so ....I'm speechless (so it's good that I'm typing!). I have never seen a flosck of anything migrating,....well, unless you count a group of Canada Geese, I have seen them. I cannot imagine what a sight it muse be to live in the plalines states, I guess, where great numbers of different types migrate thru. Wow!!
Amazing number of Cranes.....Margaret, the Grackles have lost a lot of their tail feathers. They should actually have a number of the longer feathers.
Margaret, That Stilt is so beautiful!
Wow Gary that's quite a sight!
Nice Gull adel!
Very nice pics everyone!
Good ones adel and Mrs Ed!
Cute pics burn!
Adelbertcat, that is a really good shot of the gull. Cute little Towhee - great name.Gary, what an amazing spectacle to see a migration like that. Beautiful Jay.Burn, enchanting pic of the goldfinch on the hollyhock.Mrs Ed, it's like I've seen one of those Cardinals before. Beautiful photos, Methodical. New camera?Great pictures, nanny. Love them.Grandmaggie, I love the first photo of the Jay scrutinizing his peanut. Thanks for the info on the Grackle, gardenpom. From this afternoon (Friday). Clamorous Reed Warbler. Poor focus because it wouldn't stay still long enough to zero in on it. However, even though these little birds are visually elusive they are very vocal. Strong, melodious voice with a very varied song. I hear them every time I go down the swamp as well as during the night. This and three other even more poorly focused shots are the only ones I've ever managed to take.
nice one Margaret. It sure is hard to capture them at all when they move around so fast.
General Question for Everyone:
How many of you belong to a listserv for your states birds?
If your not familiar with what that is it's where you receive e mails of all the posting of fellow birders in your state (that belong to the listserv). I just recently joined mine and its so interesting to see reports of daily counts of birds from different parts of the state along with other types of postings.
Pelle, I am not, nor do I know of one. I occasionally check out state sitings.
Nice warbler Margaret. Good to know you have little songbirds too! *wink* on the cardinal!
Great song sparrows Nanny and Burn. Have you seen the white-throated or the white-crowned return yet? I hope they pass through again this fall.
I think all you have to do is search listserv IllinoisBirds. That would probably give you the instructions.
