Morning glories 2008 #18

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Love the FS I can't seem to get a real one so if anyone has seeds I would love to trade...Colin your picture mad me dizzy!! LOL! Lili love your moonie!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Karen, FS was in the ghouse when I found the 3 blooms that morning. It
had cooled off enough at night that I had carried it to the g house for
protection. I don't think it was the cool nights that caused this.
2006 was the yr I ordered messenger from the co-op. I remember spraying
a brug on the porch and it's possible the FS got some drift.
That might have been enough to cause it. Early on it was on the back
deck and I remember that I was already getting H blue and FS blooms.
As I looked for this pic yesterday, I saw X's thread re her changling m g.
I want to go back and read it again because she did spray with some kind
of chemical and her vine might have got drift or run-off.
Her bloom was a beautiful kikyo or jishi and I remember it mutated to
a different bloom that was just as lovely. I think her thread was Aug, Sept or Oct
of 06.

LOL Ronnie, It gave me, an old woman, the blinding staggers.
Good thing I was sitting down. lol

Mesilla Park, NM

You all are making me jealous... the only thing I've got going is a wild purpurea and several Rebecca flowers all over the place that reseeded.

Just gorgeous flowers everyone.. I hope to grow more next year, still trying to get the house in order and I owe a couple of you some seeds, so I'll be sending them out next week or so... playing catch up seems to be in my nature.

Joseph, parasitica looks great there.

Jackie, good job on your Ten Ten, have you tried your hand at handpollination? with these playcodons, it seems almost a prerequisite to growing them.. otherwise they produce hardly any seeds at all.

Becky, wow, I miss that shibori flower.

Karen, Ronnie, Ron, howdy there!!!

A.

lol @ luvs/patootie... love the moonflower lili... i read the scent is wonderful...

bluespiral... i've seen pictures of flowers taken at the ultraviolet end of the spectrum.. they look amazing... thats the way the bees see them apparently... i don't know about birds(hummers) they probably see what we do... mind you i did see a pic of a budgie in ultraviolet (strange) and that was seen by other budgies... so... (off track again...lol)
looked at Xeramtheum sites... excellent tips on photography.

i've bid on some mutant MG seeds on ebay (.. like you do!) willow-dianthus and dragon-lion
does anyone know what the genetics are... i think they are duplicate-willow and duplicate-feathered... from yonedas site.... hope i win them...

also do do the four genetic combinations come out equally or is there more to it?

(i was going to put the pic on but don't know if thats allowed i'll go and look)

oh wait... there must be more than four genetic types if the parent strain is just carrying both genes as recessives.. thats another three types.. wonder what the chances are of getting the parent type out of seven seeds...one? back to yoneda...

Thanks for the compliments on the Flying Saucer and Giant Moon Vine. Yes, they smell wonderful. It's so pretty and big and white!

Hi A, glad you popped in to say hi. Hope you return next season with your beautiful blooms, we've missed you this summer.
I haven't tried my hand at pollinating yet, just no time. I would love to try pollen from 10-10 on another bloom, just don't know which one.
I know your house is beautiful, all the work you've done the last couple of yrs.

LiliMerci - Beautiful shot of your Moonflower! Gosh! They are so elegant and regal aren't they?!!!

Hey Antoinette! ~~~Waving~~~ So glad to see you pop in here! Can't wait to see how your home looks now ... just stunning what I have seen! I too love the spotted MG blooms of Fuji Shibori! THANK YOU for sharing seeds with me! :-) :-)

Another in a 3 inch pot. The 1st bloom looked like a Pink Blizzard and
now it looks like Rose Silk lol

That's cool you're getting huge flowers on such a short plant!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Beautiful blooms, Jackie! What is the last one that now looks like Rose Silk? It's really very attractive!

We've had some cooler weather today. I came home after work around 4:30 pm and found Fuji Shibori still wide open and just beautiful. This vine has bloomed non-stop every day now for 2 weeks! Some days there are 2 or more blooms and it is still a young vine. I just love it!!! It's won my admiration!

I was thinking that this one was a cross, but I have come to the conclusion that it is a Mutant Blue Needle Leaf Nanding volunteer. This is how it looked this afternoon after 4:30 pm. Normally it is a deep blue with purple and white. I always get a kick out of the opposite colors these blooms turn as they age throughout the day. Pretty in any color! :-)

This is Dai. No blooms yet, but I can see several buds. Hopefully in the next few days I will see a first bloom ... Love the gnarly leaves!

It reminds me of a hurricane as the leaves look windswept and shredded! lol

This is Q0426. Love the lime green color and the reddish veins! I can't wait to see what kind of bloom I get on this vine!

I had quite a few other interesting blooms in my yard today too! Seems all my plants are enjoying the rain we had yesterday and the cooler weather today! I can concur that it was soooo nice outside today during my class recess!

Beautiful Shibori Becky. Great pic too.
Becky, This was supposed to be Purple Blizzard The 1st bloom looked like
a Pink Blizzard. Then the last 2 days, the blooms look more like
Rose Silk. I wonder if Rose Silk is one of the parents to the Purple or Pink Blizzards?
Joseph, it's about a 3 inch bloom and it's a little taller than it looks. I'm holding the
bamboo stick to the back and the vine goes up another foot or two

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Beautiful color on the Mutant Blue Needle Leaf.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Jackie!

Sooo ... your bloom is supposed to be Purple Blizzard! Wow! Now that is a stretch from what the blooms look like! Very pretty whatever it is!

Gautier, MS

Pretty blooms Jackie and Becky!

Hey Helena!!! I was just thinking of you and was going to dmail you to see how you were doing! Glad to see you posting! Are your vines still going or have they expired?

I missed having MGs for several months this summer and am very thrilled to have some nice healthy vines growing and blooming again ... finally! Gosh! I guess that is a sign of a true MG addict! LOL! I gotta have my MG fix! :-)

Arlan - I was looking at my Dai vine and discovered that it is actually 3 vines! And I peeked at your personal blog and just can't get over the color combinations you were getting on this vine blooms! What a neat vine all they way around ... from leaves to blooms! I'm really impressed that all 3 seeds germinated too! I had some seeds where I planted more than one and they never came up. Not a single one! Don't know why. I was disappointed. But ... I just planted a seed for some other MG and now have vines coming up in all 20 areas around my picket fence. Many have more than one vine growing out of the concrete donuts! LOL! I can't wait until they ALL start showing blooms! It's been a good year for me for growing MGs! :-)

Gail - I was thinking of you today, too! I hope you are starting to get over the medical issues you've been dealing with. I'm glad that you didn't get any damage from Hurricane Ike! Whew ... that was a close one for sure! Been there and know how scary it is to wonder if you will still have a house standing when you return from an evacuation!
