"Fall" is coming

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Boy are those beautiful. It will be another month before my birch trees look that good.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yep, that's my idea of beauty....wish I were there now.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I sure hope they're right about being cool this weekend 'cause it was horrible here today, maybe made more so because I think we should be through with this kinda stuff. Hard to believe that it will really go from this to being cool in several days. The only good thing is that having been running all over Temecula today and this evening, we find that it's much cooler here in Fallbrook when we got home...sorry, Don.....

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, wow, Blooms! That is beautiful.

Sherry, I agree, it was h*llish here today, over 100. What on earth is making the air so dirty? Even DH noticed it when he tried to enjoy a glass of wine in the screen room after work.

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 9b)

I noticed the smog in OC today, too, like the old days. I was expecting everything including the air to be clean after the showers yesterday.
~'spin!~

Pasadena, CA(Zone 9b)

To all in the South counties - this was one hot day up here in Pasadena as well! It was also very still, so I can imagine that the smog was just sitting all over us. I kept the doors and windows shut for most of the day, as I do not have central air (just a unit in the bedroom), so it was cooler inside than out, and just sat in front of the fan most of the day. I watered this evening, since so much was bone dry. Usually, we do get a decent breeze here, being in the foothills, but Oy, what heat today!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

It was stifling here today as well. I was in Norwalk arounfd 1:30 and it was 103 there.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

JD, that's what you get for leaving Long Beach!! lol

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I hear another hot one today. This weekend is supposed to be 30 degrees cooler if that's any comfort to us! It's 80 degrees here already, whew. Before we all know it, we'll be complaining about how cold it is, well me anyway.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Well, I guess I'm glad it's not just me - but smog? We don't get smog! I do hope it's cooler for the weekend.

Did anyone see the video of the 200 pound black bear in Lake Tahoe that went through two automatic doors in a hospital? The lady at the hospital was laughing and said he then went to a local grocery store and Staples for dumpster diving, followed by a visit to a neighborhood apple tree for a snack. Finally, he sauntered off back to the woods.

And I'm complaining about a little heat? Hmmmm....

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Hi guys...coming in a little late in this thread, but certainly enjoying it!
Hey Kathleen, where did you see this video, do you have a link? Sounds hilarious!
Roberta

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

It was on Fox News this morning - here's the link to their videos; scroll down to "Bear Necessities."

http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html

It was funny watching the bear's reaction to the doors opening and closing, but I wanted to see the reactions of the people on the inside!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

The mums are blooming. How's that for fall?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

We want pictures of your mums!
Kathleen, that was very funny! : )

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

We had our season's first showers today, which tells me it's really fall! WOOOHOOO---we really need the wet stuff!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

We got the tiniest little bit of misting down at this end and it's supposed to be back to the 90's by Tuesday...please say it ain't so, Joe.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

It's raining here Sherry.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, you poor thing, Louise! lol Not to worry, it will be hot again next week. I can't wait for sweater weather.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Okay, what are you guys doing still up? I think that rain ought to be pouring here where someone can really appreciate it..lol....life's sooo unfair.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You can have the rain!

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

Aaaaahh, this is a most perplexing time of year in the garden for me. Leaves start to turn on some plants, yellow and then brown, brittle, flying off in the breeze. Others perform their characteristic duties, be that flowering, wandering about the ground or fence, throwing themselves skyward, or just doing their job as place-keepers, holding on. The most confusing part of the season and plants, though, is that seemingly rare plant which yet again, once again, pops with another precious puppy or kitten, each more unique than the previous. I mean, some plants are going to sleep, others are working as usual, and yet others are "growing" a new life.

Apropos of the above I've attached a pic of my beloved Sally Holmes, kind of goofy in her posture. But look . . . the clematis has caught her up in the seasonal work of a clematis . . . holding on. And the baby? A tiny image of new life in the lower left corner. See it? The miracle of new life. Yet look at the green, no yellow, no brown Fruitless Mulberry leaf caught in the foliage above Sally. A curious season. And we caught some of it during the past 48 hours, KaperC. I worked my head off outdoors and loved it.

Thanks for highlighting fall's emerging, JasperDale. It rained Fri night/Sat a.m. As of today it's cooler and the temps will once again rise as you note.

Lord knows I'm one of the last ones to ever wish for an end to summer, but when you work outdoors for the majority of the day, it does get a little old after a while. LOL

I have to remind myself that mild as our winters are, we really don't have a whole lot to complain about !

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Well, I always hate to see summer go, but do look forward to spring. Boy, is it nice out today but I feel some humidity coming this week that's for sure. I always say I hate winter but I guess I really don't, down deep. I love my fireplace and the smell of a good homemade soup. Fall is a great time of year, yup!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Ah-ha! We got to you, Weegy! It's good to look forward to what's coming ahead and no, JD, we don't have much to complain about with regard to winter!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You did! As I say, if you can't beat em, join em. Where do I sign up?!!!?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

The more I think about that poor chicken and the milk carton, the more I think he/she was depressed and off'd itself ! These times are worse than we realize.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Boy, I'm glad our tragedy is getting so much mileage! We never did say anything to our neighbors, BTW. No need to torture them with nightmares of their poor critter.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Mike, can you splain about the milk carton and chicken...having a blonde moment here!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

JD, John says to tell you he thinks it was a rooster and he was stressed out taking care of all those hens - drove him to suicide.
Weegy, I think it's on the Roll Call thread.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Weegy, here it is: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5630985

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Ok, I'll go over there, thanks Kathleen.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

LOL! Thank you!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Now how in the heck did I miss the chicken story??!?! That is sad but I bet it was even sadder to see.
Thanks Kathleen.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Since it's supposed to get hot again we had to take the quick opportunity to make a run up to Idyllwild today for lunch....lovely day, not hot, not cold, just perfect. Sitting out on the deck under the trees and listening to a lovely lady with a lovely voice play her harp. If it stays 90 degrees all winter long, I'm gonna off myself along with that rooster........

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey everyone, and the poor chicken!

I moved recently to this place where I see Mt Shasta out my front windows...... and she has her snowy lacy cape on her shoulders today! When I first moved here (beginning of Sept) the only white to see up there were the glaciers..... Felt like a huge relief, yesterday and the day before, the rain down below and snow up top....... and now it will be more likely cool enough for this weather wimp to spend some time kicking around ideas for a garden space in the area out my back windows...... right dry but many possibilities! :-D

Lovely forums here, glad I joined. Happy Fall!

ciao, Kyla L.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Welcome! A view of snow-topped Shasta is pretty good indeed. I'd like that with my morning coffee.....
Sherry

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks! And, yes, it does go well with coffee. ;-)

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Welcome, Kyla! Bet that is a wonderful view.

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Yeah, it is...... wish I had the means to share pictures but not yet. Thanks for the welcome! I notice lots of folks from Southern California...... not too many from this region, but then, not too many people here in the first place, LOL!

Today the weather was the sweetest imaginable, sunny and not too hot, not too dry...... yum.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Welcome Kyla. Wow I googled Weed! How interesting and what a view you do have!
