September Blooms, Part 2

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Gail give her time to grow a bit more and I should have a leaf for you and Jim both..shouldn't be too long if you don't mind waiting a bit.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You are so sweet..............I love to tease Jim..............as he has lots of good leaves...........like you..............I am always 'knocking' at his door for leaves............

Williston, ND

I can wait,if you want to see my list nancy let me know
ive got a couple lol

JIM

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Do you know why I always order from Lyndon Lyons (I also order from Gary Mitika Out of Africa). Syrunami and I ordered together to save on shipping plus I am going to take stolons from her and stick in pots.........then I am going to take stolons from mine and stick in pots for her. We will meet at the dentist's office tomorrow...................so I have my work cut out today. I am so sorry for all the people I need to be packing for...........but promise to do that Monday first thing.

These are all episcias and I ordered two lipstick plants of 'Big Apple'
This first picture belongs to Syrunami................how about the size of these plants

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

These are mine but we get to have some of each other's plants............that is what I am spending the day doing..............sticking stolons and cuttings where the plant got broken in shipping..............although Lyndon Lyons did a fantastic job of packing.................

(Zone 1)

Oh my goodness, Gail & Syrunami - what a fantastic bunch of plants!

I love the one top left in the first photo, but I really, really want to know the name of the one in the first picture, bottom right! That leaf with all the pink is GORGEOUS!

Are those all Episcia's?

Names please, please ...

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok.................let me go get the trays and I can tell you, Lin........................I will start with Nichole's tray..................I will start with the back row of her tray...........going from left to right
Pink Acajou, Metallica and Strawberry Patch on the right back.........
Now for the front row:
Le Soledad Bronze, Suomi and Ember Lace
Nichole::::::::::::::: you don't owe me as much money as I thought........neither of us got Jim's Daphne's Choice............so I need to take 6.00 from your amount.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, I just can't wait until tomorrow!! They all look PERFECT!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok..........now mine.............but remember each of us will have everything the other one has when I get through today stealing from each one a stolon or cutting (that has broken in shipping)..................There is only one on the left just sitting in the middle left of the tray......she is Coco . Behind her on the back row is Sea Foam, then Ember Lace but she doesn't have any pink on her........kinda weird......next Raspberry Blush and the plant on the far right back is Alfred Sharpe.
On the front row of mine is (forget Coco.......she is sitting on the front and back)....Jim's Dancing Doll, Kee Wee with the pink in the leaves and Butternut. Suomi is tiny and sitting behind and in between the front and the back row................

(Zone 1)

Oooh, it must be the Ember Lace that really caught my eye! They are all so pretty! I used to have one called Pink Acajou or something like that ... have lost all my labels so I don't know what's what anymore. That Metallica is really nice too ... the color matches the name for sure!

I have Strawberry Patch that I grew from seeds I got in trade from Bigred last year, it still hasn't bloomed but you know me ... I'm so bad about feeding.

I would like to see a close up of that Le Soledad Bronze ... can't really see it with my eyes. Sounds like a nice one with that name! Suomi is one with a pretty yellow bloom that I want and SuzyQ said she will save me a stolon when her plant grows up.

I think I will go googling and look at some Episcia's. LOL.

(Zone 1)

Gee, those plants are so large and so healthy looking. I think I might have to check out Gary's site and LL's as well.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, I can't wait!!! (have I said that already?!? LOL - I can't remember!!!) I've spent most of my lunch break at the LL site, just to look at our new babies !!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

What I like about both Gary and Lyndon Lyons is that I am able to tell them what is important to me and they listen and ship accordingly.......................very responsibly.....
Needless to say I am thrilled with this order...........if I don't go take a nap.........I won't get all this done....................

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

You may sleep, Gail . . . rest assured that if you don't post before I get home from work tonite (leave work at 7:00pm), that I WILL call you to wake you up!!!

You know, you really need your sleep. I will amend my above comment to say that I will wake you up early in the morning tomorrow, instead!

I don't have an alarm clock......have never owned one but there are occasions where I could really use one................don't laugh..........I may send you my phone number so you can wake me up in the morning...............not going to take a nap because I won't go to bed tonigth (LOL)

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

A quick hello to everyone as I can't sit at this computer very long but wanted to tell you all what beautiful photos of your lovely plants and flowers you've shared. Wonderful to see them all. So many beauties. Nothing better than gesneriads.

YOu smarty pants, Goldleaf! What a dynamic color for a bloom. Better hold on to those pretty ones or I will be asking for a trade of cuttings. Thanks for sharing!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

You got it, Gail. One of these days I'll have extras and will be glad to do some trading.

(Zone 1)

What a beautiful Kohleria! One of these days I am going to try one. But, I seem to lose plants that have rhizomes. Seems like when the plant goes dormant I forget there are "worms" under the soil and the pot gets dumped or something else gets planted in it! Maybe if I could keep labels on the pots I would remember that there's something "sleeping" in there! LOL.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Beautiful pictures everyone! Nancy that japan strep is to die for.Are the flowers small? Susan you grow girl!

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

av_ocd_girl-

Your streptocarpella is lovely. I have a few of them hanging under my trees, in hanging baskets. They are just wonderful and bloom their heads off. They are very easy to propagate, and one of my all-time favorite plants.

They are listed in plantfiles under two different names. I saw Starzz picture many years ago, and contacted her about a trade, immediately, lol... She is the one that originally traded mine to me.

Here is her picture in plantfiles under streptocarpus saxorum:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/1961/

and here is another entry of the same plant listed as streptocarpus 'concord blue':

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I can't be here long as today is the funeral and I have to run... I just wanted to say that the Kohleria above is just beautiful... I also don't have that one so watch out Goldleaf I may just come by and take it...LOLOL only kidding...
Hugs,
Susan
Who is so stressed out my body and mind are working overtime here...

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Susan-
I'm sorry to hear it...hopefully the day goes as smoothly as it possibly can, under the circumstances.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Jan.. not really sure how big the blooms will get..this is the 1st bloom cycle..a couple more and I should know for sure..lol..
Goldleaf..lovin' that Kohleria..beautiful bloom!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, my. I think . . . that after just one visit with Gail (and after I'm done separating little baby leaf cuttings) that I have doubled the amount of plants I have! That includes the 6 plants I purchased . . .

Don't know that I'll get much work done . . . brought trays of plants to my desk . . . people are ooohing and aaahing over the episcia's . . . I keep getting distracted by foliage myself . . .

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks Susan and Cedarnest! Give me a little time and I would be happy to share with you.

Lin...it might be fun for you to try growing kohlerias outdoors under a covered porch so the rain doesn't beat them down.. Cuttings are easy to root and the rhizomes are simple to harvest and replant for more plants. I think I'll try some next summer on my front porch and see what happens. When I get ahead, please know if you see something I have that you want, feel free to ask anytime.

(Zone 1)

Goldleaf: Great idea, next spring I might try a Kohleria or two out on my covered deck and see how they do! I was digging around on one of my stands today and found one I got from Cedarnest/Nancy in a trade. It's Kohleria Manchu ... growing nicely so far and I can't wait to get blooms!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, I drove to Boerne (3 hour drive) and then came back to San Antonio for a dentist appt. and now at my daughter's house with her family. I hit the jackpot in Boerne..........but first I need to tell the Kohleria lovers that I won a 'bunch' of them on ebay but haven't gotten them yet and I ordered some also. I think I am going to get to order some more from someone who has some really good ones.

I have been trying to acquire these giant baskets from the nursery in Boerne for over 2 years. Every time I am there he only has the 21/2" for 7.50 and I won't buy because I want big baskets. Today I found Aeschynanthus 'Holiday Bells', A. 'Tia Pink', A. 'Coral Flame' and Nematanthus 'Tropical'. I wish I could send everyone some. I think I am going to propagate but put 5 cuttings to a 3 or 4" pot and let them get big. That way, someone could really start a basket by taking cuttings from 5 good little plants.

The other great find is a Ice Canadian Sunset streptocarpus (with two leaves) (lol)
Isn't this terrible that I can't go one day without DG..........the grandchildren are all playing with sleep over company.

Williston, ND

i love kohleria blooms I just dont care for the plant, now a smithiantha thats another story

JIM

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I saw those hanging baskets . . . she's not kidding! Those plants are huge! She offered me some cuttings from them, but I think at this point I'm "stretching at the seams" of available growing space! Maybe after the new year . . .

South, TX

I am glad you had a great trip to Boerne and found some great plants! Hope you enjoy your visit.

Gail ... Pictures ... We Want Pictures! LOL. They all sound wonderful ... now I'm going to have to go googling those names!

I hope with all the propagation you have in mind, you will consider putting a few on Marketplace after you get them rooted and growing!

(Zone 1)

LOL, Gail ... I just HAD to go googling! Those Lipstick Plants you got are all gorgeous, I really like A. 'Coral Flame' but you can guess what my favorite was! I couldn't find A. 'Tai Pink' but did find this one called 'Thai Pink': http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.cloudjungle.com/CloudJungle/Gesneriaceae/Aeschynanthus/Aeschynanthus%2520Thai%2520Pink%2520flower.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.cloudjungle.com/shop/search.aspx%3Fq%3DCuttings%2520Available%2520for%2520Trade&h=401&w=600&sz=35&hl=en&start=1&um=1&usg=__EzSERuFlKnPMBia3Gxm6_bPlhw4=&tbnid=n7OHdLVV7bhBKM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dimages%2Bof%2Baeschynanthus%2BThai%2BPink%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

I have never seen a pink flowering Lipstick Plant and it is absolutely Beautiful! If you ever propagate and put that one on the Marketplace I hope I get there first! LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I have to go to bed for awhile and be back for pictures................Ken calls this one Tia Pink and Rain found it in Florida but just a small one...........Mine are so big, I am thinking about offering a lot of cuttings for not too much money.........I have to pay 35.00 for each one............but I don't have time until winter to take cuttings and root them...............so this may be easier..................I also bought a big Nematanthus Tropicana............look that one up.............is absolutely one of my favorites..................you know.........i bet the one he calle Tia is really Thai............he gets names mixed up some time..............and don't forget the A. Holiday Bells............what a beauty...........

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Nice find Gail.Your plants are beautiful! I'm a kohleria lover, which ones did you get? I'm being nosey again.LOL.

Hi there Nancy,From the pictures I've seen of the japanese streps the flowers look small and dainty.I think that's why I like them.

(Zone 1)
