I can't believe we're at vol. 13 already. Great job on the last thread everyone!
Here's a new Hummer today;a beautiful female.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 13
yes she is! I know, it seems like just yesterday we had Vol. 1
Wow, Nice shots pelletory! She's a beauty!
WOW! She is pretty!
Thank you. An immature male has just shown up and the fight is on!
I hope she wins. :-)
ha. you go girl!!
Let us know what happens!
Last one on the feeder was the female. Yea!!!
hhahaha. Girls Rule!
Yea Girl Power!
What a beautiful little bird, Pelle.
Yes! And the female wins out!
I am depressed... I think I drove my buddies away... the ant moat went dry and it was covered with ants when I came home today... no signs of hummers anywhere
:(
onewish, Don't give up yet, I didn't see any hummers this morning anywhere, But, This afternoon, I had one that came back in.
I refilled the feeder & moat ... just have to wait and see
They probably just moved on onewish.
My girls still here this morning. A large Coopers Hawk came into the yard and flew into the apple tree right in front of the feeder she was perched on;she didn't move a muscle. When he took off he flew right past her and she stayed still;when he was out of the yard she started drinking again. Maybe she's using the freezing technique?
She's a wonderfully calm hummer, I tried making noises and moving about and it doesn't seem to bother her. Its a nice change from some of the other nervous nellies.
Nice photos of the hummingbird. The female or young hummingbirds seem to be a little more tolerant than the male.
I haven't taken any photos of my hummingbirds this summer. I did see two flying around yesterday but they will soon be gone.
Seems to me that in the fall I have a new bird here every other day.
Pelle great pictures of the female. And Yay she won, Go girls go. I saw a hummers a couple of days ago, but haven't seen it since. Must have left to see you guys down south. Flocks of Canada geese are passing almost daily, starting their journey south. Their meeting place around here is a lake not that far from here. I will have to take a ride up, to get some pictures of the gathering. It's getting pretty cold here. 2 nights in a row had frost warning, covered tender plants, no damage yet. Leaves are starting to change colors. Summer was way too short this year. Will have to gear up for the new season, and enjoy the colors.
Wonderful pictures on the last thread guys and gals. Can't wait to have Rose here again.
Greetings from ROSE!
I broke down and called her and was worried she'd think I was a stalker!
She was delighted as she's been sitting around doing Sudoku puzzles!
Here's a bit of what she has to say.
Still has lots of hummers.
Still has Mom and Dad bluebird and others
Indigo buntings are gone.
Woodpeckers are coming into the yard
Saw a pilieated woodpecker on the property
Saw about 30-40 birds that might be Common Nighthawks (she described what Nanny had seen in the ID forum, so I suggested Common Nighthawk).
Saw fun birds in California.
Almost canceled her vacation because her neighbor told her there were cedar waxwings in the apple tree. (chuckle) She told me to tell you that she went there but she did not see any.
Wants to know what songbirds are migrating right now, but I didn't really know.
She says she misses you all, "Hi to Nanny and the Grannies" "How is Pelle", Would call Margaret but she's in Australia, etc.
She'll have the computer back in about 2 weeks she thinks.
Glad you called her Marna! I thought her original time offline sounded a bit optimistic.
Glad she's doing well.
Did she mention seeing many birds in Ca?
Turns out that the computer didn't even get sent out until this week! Something about someone sending a special form and box, etc.
She did mention CA, she has tons of pictures but doesn't know what's good yet. She saw: Magpye, Acorn Woodpeckers, Anna Hummingbird, tons of shore birds and water birds, cormorants, western bluebirds. That's what I remember, I'm sure she'll have a whole thread when she gets back!
DH had built her some new spots for bird watching. One is back by the dead tree. Oh, that reminds me. She's had a coopers hawk hanging out there. She says it hasn't gotten any birds yet that she knows of.
Thats great, I'm glad she saw so much. Can't wait to see her pics!
LOL, Good ones nanny!
We're having terrible weather here dark skies and lots of rain so I won't be able to take pics of any birds here for a few days! Boohoo!
Dark & rainy here today too and more of the through monday. YUCK!!
Those are from earlier this week. I need a Dave's GPS system!! lol
Well Nanny, that's my fault because I listed all of those birds that Rose had seen.
Rainy here too, but I saw a hummingbird sipping away in the rain. The goldfinches were right there eating thistle too. Teases!!
I know, my Goldfinch have been eating like little piggies! I had to buy thistle 2 times in the past week! BTW, their loving that new Perky Pet Upside Down feeder w/ the metal perches. I think I'll buy another one. Then they'll have 2 out of 4 feeders all to themselves.
must be you Mrs... mine take off as soon as they see me
Heres a link nanny. I ordered mine through the bird shop.
http://www.rachelsrobin.com/shop/index.php?page=shop-flypage-11238
I'll have to get one. They did not like my new metal one so much and it's not very easy to clean.
I bought a mesh one earlier this year and they don't seem to like it either, so I have been using the sock too. I need something that will keep the seed dry.
