propagation?

Murrieta, CA(Zone 9b)

This seems to be an Asplenium, but for a fern, it has never had spores, and I've had it for over a year. Anyone know how I could propagate more plants from this guy? I've heard of taking some root, but what do I do with the root then? Boy, I am glad this is a beginners forum, I am sounding quite inexperienced!
thanks for any help!

also, this plants roots give off the most heavenly sweet smell when watered, it is almost magical how sweet and good it smells. anyone had any experience with this scent?

Can we get a bigger picture? It's kind of small.

If it is what you think, you can do the following...this is what the Yardener site says...

"The easiest way to grow more fern plants is to divide existing clumps after 3 or 4 years when they become large. In the spring gently lift the plant mass up from the soil with a spade. Shake the soil from the roots, exposing them. Carefully pull them apart into several smaller fern clumps. Tightly tangled roots may have to be cut apart with a sharp knife. Disturb the fronds as little as possible. "

I am unable to see your photo clearly as well. Here are some Asplenium's listed in the Plant Files database with photo's: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=asplenium&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

If you have some time, you can scroll through and compare the photo's to your plant. Just click on some of the pictures and compare them with your plant to get a correct identification and correct propagation methods. I have a couple of different ferns and I divide the root ball clumps as Kwanjin stated above.

LOL ... That looks like the Kangaroo Paw Fern! I have two huge baskets of that one! Here's the link to Plant Files for it: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/106932/

I divide mine by just breaking off one of the little "arms"... this is one I rooted a couple of months ago, I took it out of the pot so you can see.

And, here are two baskets. The one on the right came from cuttings of the one on the left.
