I know one site, it is selling it for over $40/tree, I think.
I wonder if there are any sites that sell this tree.
where to buy the "chinese strawberry tree?"
I'm not familiar with the plant, but when I googled it the first place that came up was TyTy nursery, whatever you do, don't buy from them. They are very bad news.
There's one place listed in Plant Scout that carries plants but they won't ship to CA. Here's a site that has seeds if you don't mind growing them that way instead of starting with a plant. http://www.banana-tree.com/Product_Detail~category~20~Product_ID~434.cfm
haha, yea, tyty nursery is the one that I found, they have those pictures which are manipulated by softwares, why are they the bad news though?
I've never bought from them, but from what I've heard they send very poor quality plants and their customer service is terrible.
Hi Youngman, actually we would pay 2 times that for the tree you want (Arbutus strawberry tree) but as Ecrane said, you obviously need to get one from a reputable grower, some of these trees have a wonderful bark colour and marking and are good to look at even just for the bark. I cant help you where to get one as ours are all imported here, so good luck, take your time in choosing one so you know it will grow well for you for many, many years. maybe somewhere local to you could order one for you and you can look it over before you buy it. WeeNel.
I could be wrong, but I think youngman is looking for Cudrania tricuspidata which is the Chinese strawberry tree, Arbutus is just strawberry tree. If it is the Arbutus though, it shouldn't be any trouble to find one at a local nursery, they're relatively common in California.
To add more confusion into the mix.....I have a tree that they also call the "strawberry tree" or Muntingia calabura, this one is called so because the blooms look like a strawberry flower. The fruit is delicious and tastes like cotton candy....truly it does.
Youngman have a look on Top Tropicals and do a search on Strawberry tree and see if any of them are the ones your looking for, I found a few with the so called name....although none were called Chinese. Then let us know.
By the way I got my Muntingia Calabura....strawberry tree from Jene's Tropicals for under $40 but it was worth it.
Here are some pictures of this particular fruit tree.

Did you ever locate the tree you were looking for? Did you get one?
no. i think that there is only one vendor that sells it, but it has a bad reputation.
this thing tastes pretty good, i don't know why it is not popular in the US.
It's beautiful and unusual! Where have you seen the plant growing? Does it taste anything like a strawberry?

is one place to buy it....
I'm in AZ (temps are now 103 - 116 degrees) and mine is doing well so far...here's a pic of it...
Oh, by the way: I paid 14.95 + shipping.....
I'M SOOO SORRY!......APPARENTLY i MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE......YOU SAID "STRAWBERRY TREE"....(that's different isn't it?.....) this one is called a "Jamaican Strawberry" but there is another type.....
