I live in SC..... zone 7b i believe. I am starting a hay bale garden...i've done some research and have my bales ready to start planting. But now I am having bit of a dilemma I don;t know what I can plant now and harvest in the fall or early winter. Does anyone have any advise? I also LOVE beans and was wondering if I still have time to plant any. Thanks for any advise you can give.
I live in South Carolina and it's now 09/9 what can I plant?
OK, here's an idea. Bookmark this site: http://www.almanac.com/
Under 'gardening' click on 'planting dates'.
Click on 'personalize this site' - enter your zip code.
VOILA! You now have a planting guide tailored for your zip code!
Enjoy!

Les,
That's terrific! Thanks for the info.

As for advice. Check with some local 'old-timers'. Grannies and Gramps sitting in rockin' chairs are a much neglected source of knowledge to an era when people grew their own food. Plus they would love to share the experiences.

The Farmer's Almanac is kind of incomplete as far as fall crops. They do not have dates for fall tomatoes, cucumbers, or beans.
Newbie. There are lots of things ( all of the brassicas for example) Chenopods like beets, swiss chard. All of them do well in the ground, raised beds, and to a lesser extent in containers. However, strawbale gardening is a different technoque and I have no idea which of these plants will do well in that medium
Thanks for all of the good advise! Keep it coming I am always open to new ideas!!!
