Just chicking in===
No Power as of 4 am.
No damage to the house, several trees down and lots of debris around the house.
Minus one bird feeder and I think my birdbath. Waiting for the rain to stop to take pictures. The leaning pine (about 3 ft. diameter) took out one arbor, one total flower bed, but missed the house. It fell over, roots and all.
I feel blessed!

Great to hear from you Annette!
New Thread....

Our power went out at 2 am Saturday. First night just lots of wind. Lost maybe 1/3rd the branches in our 2 sweetgums in front (wimpy trees) but the oaks on the street littered all their leaves into our yard. Neighbors spent Saturday in the drizzle cleaning up limbs etc. Most damage in neighborhood was to some fences blown over and gutters knocked down. There were 2 or 3 street signs snapped in HALF??? also.
We ran the generator during the day only. Toddler got to watch Wiggles lol. Neighbors were jealous seeing our window AC hanging out. Next door neighbor though, grumpy old man, came up to DH cleaning up our yard to tell us our generator is to loud. DH pretty much said that's to bad buddy, with a toddler and a newborn we're running it. Best could offer is we won't use it at night. Man and his wife came by later as I was standing in doorway surveying damage with both girls and they wanted to say we can use our generator (gee thanks) and not to worry about it, they understand with us having the girls. LOL.
Sunday morning we woke to see flooding in the street---we're up about 3' from the street though. It was only floooded about 5 houses down each direction though so DH tried to see if the drainage ditch was clogged. Nothing at the surface to clear out though. Several hours later all the men (lol) went out to clear it---seems the block is waaaay down deep in the drainage pipe so it will be slow draining so we are homebound. But shouldn't flood.
Power was restored about 10 am this morning. Meanwhile, neighborhoods on either side of ours had power the whole time.
The lack of power was the only real downside besides cleanup but overall no damage so we are quite happy!
I am very happy that damage was so minor at your home.
Because we have power outages now and then, the spot loss is indicative of a transformer blowing. (these are generally on a pole).
Glad to know that you have been safe and comfortable. Can't imagine complaining about the gen being too loud.
Guess this where the best and worst will show itself. Will also make people more aware of just how important the storm sewers really are.

Will continue to pray for you and all the others that have had their lives so horribly disrupted. Another wakeup for all of us to rearrange our priorities.
My heart goes out to all of you as you begin the enormous work
of cleaning up and getting your lives back in order.
Here in Albuquerque, NM, and other places in the state, we now
have teams of firefighters, utility workers and equipment, and other
trained personnel heading your way to help. Events like this make
us all more aware of "Help thy neighbor" and the simple acts of
kindness that make a difference. We are proud to lend a hand. It
will take time, but it will get done.
Thoughts and prayers flowing your way,
June
I also posted this in the Hurricane Ike Landfall thread so
I don't miss anyone.
Yes, for all our modern technology, we're still at the mercy of forces of nature like hurricanes and other natural disasters and some modern conveniences can still be stripped away on a temporary basis. We've become very dependent...some might even call it addicted, to modern things that can't work without power and such. I grew up entirely without A/C (in Texas, mind you) until I was practically grown, we didn't even have any TV at all until I was about 10 or so. The internet is SO recent for me, can't imagine having that as a child. We didn't even have a phone until I was in high school. Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to go on like that. Glad everybody's come through it as well as they have. I still need to reach my sister in Houston...hope they still have their phone working.
My prayers and those of all the people in Midsouth have been with you all from the beginning. Good news for ya'll. My husband was coming back from work this morning in Baton Rouge and he said the interstate for miles and miles is nothing but the big Electrical Utility trucks heading to Texas. We continue in prayer for all of you.

Has anyone heard from rjuddharrison. I haven't seen a post from him since he posted from inside a closet.
Randy's doing fine. No power and garden damage. But safe and happy.
NEW THREAD since this one is getting long for dial-up and some folks may have ONLY dial-up after Ike... at least for a bit.
