Hurricane Ike Watch

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Cristi... yeah I just saw that on the map.. I have felt all along Ike will continue going NE.. even closer to us.. so maybe..IF they still go there to those towns, we will be safe. For Gustav, the nursing home really jumped the gun.. now with a huge hurricane they are dragging their feet. I do know they won't go back to Emory, but for now I am assuming that area is where they'll go. I'll find out more in the morning..BTW.. how are you doing post surgery??

Hopefully Lynea, being so far N won't have the damaging winds, and tornadoes.. hopefully I say, but usually there will only be rains that far N

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm doing super, thank you for asking. Glad I am not having to move as much as you have been required to do. Not riding very well yet.

Thinking of you and others and praying that God holds you in the palm of His Hand.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

TY Cristi... I so look forward to meeting you at the A RU!!

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Well Liberty County got its orders but I am not leaving..lol..

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Moodene please take care stayin there I know you have your reasons but just take care *S*

Becky as I said in email if you are this way you are welcome to camp here

DH & I watched 2 different news stations last night and they both said something different about what Ike was going to do and the effects on our area.
I use weather underground for weather it has always seemed to give the most accurate account and they say a tropical storm after it makes land fall so East Texas is gonna be wet wet wet all weekend for sure

Mibus ~ TX state news just said they expect it to remain a Cat 1 as far north as Palestine. It will still be fierce.

I worry and pray for all those in campers & trailers which headed north running from this bad boy. I would almost rather sit it out than try to weather those winds in an RV.

Sitting here praying for all that it won't be as bad as it sounds.... Stay safe! pod

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sending you a dmail Becky.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Just a caution... everyone in the Dallas area needs to note that, as of this morning, we are still in the path of Tropical Storm Ike. We are forecast to have winds of 50-60 and a lot of rain. So, probably a good idea to bring in all the pots, birdfeeders, and anything else that could get broken or fly around.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

We are staying put now. The nursing home can't get the buses to take the residents. We both have generators.. and are prepared. Yes Ike is going to be bad if nothing else for how wide he is.. TG he's still a cat 2..

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

It kept inching a little further north (east) and DH figured we would end up on the west side of it, but it hasn't budged for over 24 hours now. It looks like it will follow I-45 north from Galveston. One site says it will come ashore as a category 3; another says category 2. It won't have downgraded by the time it arrives here. We're right in its path.

We've brought everything in from outside, but never boarded up - DH was so certain it wouldn't hit here. He can be a little hard-headed sometimes... Still praying that it will weaken before landfall - to a tropical storm.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I have to work till 1, fortunately for me I'll be driving south to get home. I'll try to get out and take pictures for the "before". I have 5 brugs in the ground and 4 of them are blooming their little heads off. So I'm taking a picture in case they are the last blooms for the year. :-(

Can I ask for prayers, especially for all the people who are riding it out in the mandatory areas? I know some of you already are praying. Maybe some of you remember Sandy (ilovejesus99) is in Baytown, not leaving last I heard yesterday. Many others, some above on this thread.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

I will by happy to make calls for anyone who needs...just D-mail me the info. Ya'll be safe and God bless! (((HUGS)))

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I have relatives in Sealy. Are they in the direct projected path? Thanks, Lou

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Sealy is just to the west of Houston area off I-10. I checked and the info said not under mandatory evacuation (as of yesterday evening), but is suggested by local authorities if possible, tropical storm conditions expected this weekend.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's a great site to follow Ike: http://www.stormpulse.com/fullscreen/current

Click on many places on the map to find out what and where, update it by clicking on your reload button on your toolbar at the top of the page.

My guess would be yes. It's a big storm and Sealy is roughly 50 miles west of the forecast center of the storm. There could be some high winds and heavy rain - because of its size. But Sealy will be on the west side, the clean side, so hopefully no tornadoes.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks so much! I am worried about them (Daughter,SIL, and 2 Grandchildren). I tried this morning by phone and circuits are all busy. Thanks for link , It will be a big help. Lou

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't know if this will work, but you can see lots of detail with the individual cities:

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

May the Lord be with all of you and protect you, I will be praying for you.
Josephine.

Humble, TX

When I found out I didn't have to teach today, we decided to leave and come visit my mom in East Texas, north of Longview. Traffic wasn't too bad and kept moving most of the way. I'll be praying for all of you that stayed.
Tabitha

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Ike has been downgraded to a category 2 when it hits land. Keep those prayers coming, please!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Just finished bringing everything in and securing the greenhouse as best I could. My bathtub had a hole in the bottom, subcontractors came out today to fix it and the whole house wreaks of fiberglass patching. Had to open all the windows to try and air it out. Today of all days....

Kim

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

We're still doing good here. Cloudy and windy but not strong winds. The worst is expected later in the evening. Everyone, hang on tight!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Prayers are being said from across the miles for everyone's safety.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL Kim... yeah it seems that is the kind of problems we have to deal with.. but at least it's fixed! Everything is tied down.. or whatever.. I guess we are as ready as we'll ever be. I am praying for all of us, but especially you that are closer, please be safe!!

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Still here and all bunkered down now..wind has picked up at the tree tops here..waiting..waiting...lol

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

TY Kimbob... we all appreciated you, and all our DG friends!!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Becky, please stay safe. I'm thinking about y'all. I lived in Galvestion in the Mid. .80's I remember everytime it rained there it flooded, (without Ike to spoil thing over).

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Moodene I'm with ya, just waiting here, we have had small showers and a bit of wind off and on for the last hour..comes in waves so guess it depends on the bands.

I've told the DF and DS to stop calling every hour they are killing my cell phone battery, lol the line between Auburn, AL and Orange, TX has been on fire today. I think it's difficult for the people that aren't here because the watch the TV (which only shows the worst case senerio) and they panic.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

araness I agree there the tv gives the worst.
my mom (in Illinois) called me today and was all in an up roar as my brother had called her twice from work (he is a fireman) and he had been looking at the stuff online with the guys and he didn't know just where Tyler is to Galveston and got her all worried and she thought we needed to go get plywood to cover our windows with.
It took me calling him and my daughter calling her to explain just how far we are away from Houston and Galveston to finally get her settled down.
told her we would be in touch

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Yep, I had to tell my brother to stop texting me..cuz I was too busy trying to hunkered down here...sheeze...

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Hahaha .... who wants a free Hurricane???...LOL...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Tir ~ your link was "flagged for removal"... sorry I missed it.

Araness' weather sounds like what we are already seeing...

Quoting:
we have had small showers and a bit of wind off and on for the last hour..comes in waves
odd as we are a good deal further in.

I agree, I think the media creates far more anxiety than necessary for us all. This reminds me of Rita ~ came in about the same time of day and the worst of it got to us early a.m.

Here's praying y'all are safe & sound where ever you may be!

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

have no need for it. come get it.
first come first served

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL ~ who was it said boarded windows are painted up with "Take a hike ~ Ike!". The sense of humor is wonderful!

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I don't think you will get many takers Moodene...
But thanks for the offer.... lol!

As we did w/ Katrina and Rita hand holding is our speciality.
There's really nothing else we can do at this point.
Many of us here outside the zone will be on until this passes the Dangerous stage.
Then we will be around to help w/ anything we can after Ike passes.

Thanks ceejaytown for that map.
It really helps those of us not really Houston savy outsiders.

Be Safe!
Ric

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm with Ric, I'll be here all night too, watching and praying that this isn't going to be as bad as they are predicting.

Please be safe everyone.

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

OOOHHhhhhhh..my lights are flickering here....I am ready to tackle with my big guns I got here...flashlights!!...lol....no candles please.....

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

No candles for heat or fire. Love the LEDs ~ they are bright and cool and run forever on batteries. Thoughts are with you Moodene!
