Do LInden tree roots seek out pipes agressively like willows and poplars? Is it any worse than Maples? I just bought a Linden and now have to choose where to plant it. Should I plant it far, far away from my house with the willows or can I put it closer with the maples? How close to my house should I go?
Linden / Basswood
lindens are slow growing trees and beautiful.full sun and they wont hurt anything in your yard . So, you can plant them where your little heart desires but remember they grow to over 50ft. They withstand all sorts of crappy soil and very little insect and disease problems that are bad enough to hurt them. They can get aphids but they don't hurt the tree. Great shade tree.
Hi guys, dont recognise a tree by this name, so can you add any other names this tree has, WeeNel.
WeeNel:
In the balmy climes of the British Isles, this tree may be known as a Lime.
Linden or Basswood are common names applied to the various members of the genus Tilia over here across the pond. I can't say which one Dan0K has, but it is probably either the European native Tilia cordata or the North American native Tilia americana.
Thanks Viburnum, I looked up my book on trees the other day and never found it by that name either, but now I know it is a lime tree (Tilia) we have loads of them growing here and beautiful they are, many thanks. WeeNel.
