This one looked like it was playing peek-a-boo!

Mrs. Ed, I just read a while back that Black & Blue is a hybrid so it does not come true from seed.

Whatever my little red salvia is, it is not a big draw. That was a disappointment.

Dave,Those are wonderful pics!

Nanny, Looks like your guy will be leaving soon with that big tummy. :-)

I have 2 salvias out that are getting much attention either.

Heres one from today.

Nanny, that's too bad about the BB salvia. I have been painstakingly collecting seed from it. I wonder if I can get it to winter over. Or just buy a new one. But difficult to find in my area.

That red salvia of yours looks the same as mine and it does well with my fall HBs.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

The red one I got at lowes way back in the spring. It is very short only 8-10'' so it is a big planter that sits on the porch.. I have read of a few overwintering B & B successfully. I am thinking about trying it. I may have a spare pot this year!

I expect the adult males to leave anytime now. They are looking very well rounded now! I tried all afternoon to get a pic with no luck.

This one from yesterday I think...

I have red salvia too ( I'll try and find the name of it as I forgot what kind it was) which they seem to like a lot, but, The Black and Blue Salvia is a main magnet for them it seems. nanny, Let us know how you do with your overwintering this year. Todays photos..

Nice one nanny; I love it when they tilt their head in all directions!

Wonderful shots with all the flowers IRIS!

This is the first morning I haven't seen a Hummingbird at the feeders.

They must have been here very early waiting for breakfast because DH put out the front feeders before he left for work. He leaves for work a little before 6 am. This is only the second time he has ever put them out...the was this past weekend. Wonder wwhat's up with him????

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Quick feeder question -- is it OK to make nectar in a nonstick pan? I know you're not supposed to cook with them if you have pet birds but does that translate into hummer nectar?

Photos are gorgeous by the way. I love looking at this thread. Two hummers very causally fought with each other this morning and then landed about two feet apart. Of course, I didn't have my camera. Prompted me to put up the feeder though. I think they're headed back south. I'm seeing a lot more of them.

that's my story anyway!

I think the non-stick is about the fumes given off if you cook above a medium heat. I would think boiling water is fine.

I wish I would have had the camera one day when a bumble bee climbed all the way inside a black and blue salvia flower. It was so funny.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Mrs. Ed. I researched it on the internet and decided the same thing although I'm not sure that I want to cook with my new nonstick pots and pans anymore!

This hummer found the feeder almost immediately and now she's not interested in anything else the yard has to offer not even the pink bananas that were her favorite!

I just gave that same feeder to a friend of my husband's. He has about 15-20 birds I guess fighting over it. He tells me it's "all your fault" that he can't go outside without getting buzzed. I think he needs a bigger feeder.

Marlton, NJ

I make my feeder in a large pyrex measuring cup.

Nice pics guys!

Hey, folks -
I've had 1 lone hummer visitor this season. She showed up 1 month ago.
(at least I think it's the same one). She's very vocal, too! Chatters almost the
whole time she's trying to eat. My feeder hangs on an awning just outside my
parlor window. Today I sat a chair at the window, put the window up & leaned
forward to where my face was practically on the sill. "Ruby" was only about 3 ft
from my face. It was too cool!! Now I just have to talk Santa into giving me a
really good camera for Christmas!

Excuse me while I take care of all the bees & flies that came in the open
window.

Defending a feeder is hard work. One must keep their beak in good shape. A little on this side.

LOL, Carol. Hope you get that Christmas present.

Beautiful pics Frank!

Well this is the first full day of no hummingbirds at all here.

Fighting also gets feathers out of place.

Even with a beak as long as a back-scratcher it is still hard to get to all the right places.
