Yagaruma Blizzard, acquired in a seed swap from Becky. This is not
what we expected but it's pretty and I like it.
Looking like a watercolor.

Jackie - Oooooh! Now that's really a pretty color-combo. Not at all what it should be. I was very, very careful to pull seeds from the correct vines. But ... again ... same problem I had with Lady Yaguruma's Kaleidoscope ... short on pollen production and had to use pollen from other vines. Looks like a cross for sure. Could you get another photo of it and post here? I can't quite make out the bloom pattern. Is it stripes or more of a Youjiro pattern?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - I went back to my grow-out blog for that date: http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/beckygardener/7239/
Those are the ones I was growing at that time. Only 2 that I see that have that blue color - Fuji no Sora and interestingly ... Joyce Cobb ... which is an I. purpurea. I don't know. A bit of a mystery. How big is the bloom? Whatever it is ... it's attractive! It will be interesting to see what the future blooms will look like. Might give us more of a clue to what it could've crossed with. How fascinating!

My first bloom on Yag Blizzard last week.

Your vine has me stumped, Jackie! Very pretty whatever it is! :-) I hope you'll continue to post future bloom photos. It may start showing more of a pattern and coloration on the blooms as the vine grows. Keep it fertilized with Bloom Booster and Fish Emulsion every 2-3 weeks and be prepared for flushes of blooms! The Yaguruma gene means business when it comes to blooming!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky, about a 3inch bloom. The weather cooler here now and the blooms are smaller the last couple of days on all my blooms.
On 9-2, showing 2 colors.

Jackie - There is only one single vine growing in the pot? Looks like two different vines by the bloom colors. I took your first photo and darkened it to see the coloration better since the flash lightened it. (I hope you don't mind.) Here is the darkened photo. Very interesting colors!!!!

Becky, Just one vine per pot. The bamboo stick is just leaning across my trey with smaller glory's STILL waiting to be potted up. That photo might have been later in the day showing 2 colors. Here's one showing the pink starting to show up.
No sign of pink or purple when they first open in the am.

Went outside to check the blooms out. All 4 or 5 blooms are showing heavy pink bars, looking like a purpurea and trying to close early. Don't know what's up with that. Usually it stays open longer than all my other blooms.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - I don't know. Seriously, I'm stumped as how you got those bloom colors from my YB seeds. Let's see what the future blooms look like. Maybe we will get more of an idea how that happened. Or maybe we will be forever scratching our heads in wonder! LOL!

Lady Yaguruma's Kaleidoscope was a cross from YB. The first few blooms were odd looking, and then the blooms changed ... and then changed some more and continued to change. Hence the name "Kaleidoscope". But the constant was the colors - white, pink, and light blue. You've got 3 colors in yours too. White, blue, and what looks like a dark lavender color. Is that what you are seeing?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

So one of the colors is pink and not lavender? Or am I counting the number of colors wrong? I see white (throat) and that pretty blue. What other colors are you seeing?

The sepals are those of Ipomoea nil...

Becky, It may be a lavender and not pink. I need new glasses.
Here's a pic about 330 today showing pink and /or lavender bars as it closed early.

Just a curious questions. I noticed your MG leaves are different than my heart shaped ones. What are the difference? The species?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - After looking at your newest photo ... I am almost thinking YB crossed with Morning Storm. I am seeing a star pattern in your latest photo. Not sure, but that cultivar came to mind immediately when I saw your photo!

What do you think? Possibly?

LiliMerci - The leaves often differ by cultivar. I. nil and I. purpurea can both have vines that have heart-shaped leaves, which I recently discovered. I believe the heart-shaped leaves are more common for the I. purpurea though. All are beautiful, don't you think? :-)

This one taken earlier in the day. Already showing some lav/pink and that color
visible on the tube. Last one of these for now.

Off to take the g kids home. Becky, will check out your links to Morning Storm when I return.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - I have looked at your pictures at every angle I can twist my head. LOL! I really don't know what to think of your vine and blooms. What I am seeing in the above photo is that they all seem to be relatively consistent in blooms - color and pattern. Since this is on new vine stems, that may be expected. But I am honestly expecting some variations as the vine ages. What are your temps there currently? Can you grow the vine indoors if the weather continues to get colder? You've got me so curious now ... that I am hoping you will be able to continue growing this one. If it is a cross between YB and MS, you should get a lot of blooms. Both vines were profuse bloomers for me with regular fertilizing. Both vines also produced the smaller 3-4" blooms. It's a pretty mystery vine regardless of it's parentage!!! I do like it a lot! Thanks for sharing all those photos with me. I hope to see more as it continues to bloom for you!

Oh my goodness, I have missed so much! The pictures are dynamite. I just was so lucky and the neurologist blocked the three nerves sitting under the ribs of 8 9 and 10 on Friday. I feel like a new woman! Ready to go and plan on planting a lot of seeds this week. Our weather will stay warm enough in zone 9 to get a whole new crop before winter.

Thanks for all the fun you provide and all the seeds people have been so nice to send........I can't decide which ones to plant first. Some of mine didn't die and are still blooming.........remember I killed them with too much fertilizer.

Bummer as I took some pictures of the tie dye and another which keep blooming and changing. I never can keep track of my pictures......it takes forever to find them......

I have another program on Vista where they are put by the date.......which is better for me....but I have to turn the computer off and go to Vista to upload photos..........

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Hey Gail! Glad to see ya back! That's terrific that you are feeling great again! Nerve block did the trick! Yay!

Nothing like planning out your next MG crop to get your feet kicking up the dirt again! Since you over fertilized your previous MGs, are the ones that survived putting out a lot of blooms? Just curious if over-fertilizing them (if it doesn't kill them) will eventually make them bloom a lot or a little? Inquiring minds want to know!

That's a bummer that you can't locate your photos. If you can find them, please do post them here! :-)

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes Becky, I love them all!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

YOu all are too funny.......Yes, they are blooming like crazy......I need to get some more seeds but haven't felt good but today!!!!!!!!!! Today was wonderful.......selling on DG Marketplace gessie stuff. I will find my pictures. I never take the time to organize all of them.......I just keep taking pictures and growing.
My hoyas are unbelievably beautiful and blooming like crazy everywhere. My first plumeria that was sent to me from a gessie friend is blooming the most beautiful shades of pink. My green leafed ginger is going wild..........
I will just go take pictures tomorrow all over again...........just for you!!!!!!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sounds good to me, Gail! I'm gonna hold ya to those photos! Hee, hee!

LiliMerci - Me, too! :-) :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky, the temps are cooler here the last few weeks, down to 60's at night
and only 70-80's during the day. It's in a pot so I can move it to the ghouse.
I just looked at your Morning Storm link and I do think it's a possibility
I only planted one of the Yag Blizzard seeds so I can plant more of these next yr.
I like a good mystery. :)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Gail, glad you're feeling much better.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks and I am so every grateful to that nice neurologist who showed mervy on me (LOL).......

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

gessie, can't wait to see all your photos. They all sound beautiful!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

I wonder what I have here? The tag is missing.
Edited to say it may just be a form of Blue Star of India

Hi Jackie - The plant here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/patootie_1220808257_782.jpg
has a definite youjiro bloom, although the leaves are less typical of the usual youjiro...

I've had some chiaki
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/161496/
produce some atypical leaves like that...

TTY,...

Ron

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Ron. I have no idea what I planted that might have produced this bloom.

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

Just awesome blooms everyone!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

This has been beautiful since it started blooming. I find it impossible to get
a good pic, all of them wash out. Thanks to Joseph for sharing this one with me.

Thanks Melanie

Nice flowers Jackie!! I've given up on my speckled shibori too, none of the photos are ever worth showing!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Ronnie. I notice the best pics of Fuji Shibori are the ones where it's
the background flower.

This purpurea vine is huge, growing out of the floor in the g house.
Lvs are eat up with spider mites.
They are this dark in person.

Jackie - Both of your blooms above are really nice! I adore the speckled shibori blooms! They remind me of freckles! :-) Your purple blooms really stand out against the stones on your greenhouse floor! Very, very nice both of the vines!
