Garden Planning Software

Monticello, UT

Do any of you use software to plan you flower and vegetable gardens? If so, what do you use? I am looking for some recommendations because I plan on doing some serious planning during the winter.

I like pencil and graph paper myself, I've tried several programs over the years and always go back to pencil & paper. If you want to try software, grampapa wrote a series of articles on the software programs so you could use those as a starting point. Here's a link to grampapa's articles, you'll have to scroll down to find the software ones (it was a 3 or 4 part series) http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/by.php?user=grampapa

That is a perfect link. It answers many of my questions. Thanks.

I have tried a couple that I got as gifts, to be honest, like Ecrane, I found it easier to do rough sketches on paper till I was happy with my own ideas, I found the software a bit difficult to get the right measurements, the right shape to match my plot and had to stop and start the plans every time I was disturbed or left the computer, so it was faster, easier and more fun for me to just draw, rub out and play with colours, shapes and plant lists on a board/paper that I could go to anytime of day AND take it outside with me.
I have heard that there has been a huge improvement on these programs and they are simpler for the layman to understand, I am sure it would be fun IF you got one to suit your own needs as the couple I used were out a few years ago. good luck. let us know how you get on if you go for it. WeeNel.
