September Blooms, Part 1

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thank you Sally...My thoughts exactly Brenda..lol..Gail that is quite the neat set up you have there..if you can believe it yours looks a bit more organized than mine did tho..lol..isn't it so much fun packing?? love it!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have to get in the mood but once I get on a roll and have plenty of peanuts and everything I need.........I just go into packing mode..........blocking out the rest of the world. I got out all but 4 orders and I can do that in the morning. Then I can clean up.
I just got back from the post office and Nancy and Bonnie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you boxes are here and I am too tired (LOL) to open them yet. Going to sit down , have a cup of coffee and something sweet and then open my new boxes.........OH........I got a box from Susan, too. This IS a day of celebraton!

South, TX

Will you be able to go to the AV meeting tonight, Gail?

(Zone 1)

hmmm ... that looks like my house and I don't even have packages going out! LOL. I have been talking about doing some spring cleaning since Spring of 2005, maybe one of these days I will get to it. ^_^

Gail, you are AMAZING! I get stressed when I have even one box to pack - I can't even imagine having to do so many in one day!

Loving everybody's pic's of their beautiful plants!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

No, SAlly................I can't wear clothes yet (only Haynes Tshirt and stay in cold airconditioning.........ya'll have fun)

I have to post several things that don't even belong here but I always stay on the bloom thread for the month! (LOL)

You have to see Nancy's streps I bought from her. Nancy! I need your immediate attention in a dmail. Your streps are healthier than mine........the leaves are thicker which means you are giving yours more nitrogen than I am. Will you dmail me your secret??????????????
Take a look at these gorgeous plants that have been in a box since last Thursday.......and I just took them all out.

You gal's just have "the touch" with Strep's! Gorgeous, healthy plants!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Aren't those delicious looking! Nancy has to be the queen of streps...................
Now, I want to show you the first bloom on a baby Rose of Sharon that av-ocd-girl sent me............simply amazing........the color........I can't wait to put them in the ground this fall. They are very hardy as she lives in a cold climate and they come back for her.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I have never had a bloom this color on a hoya.........it is almost grey.........what happened? The last time she bloomed they were a very dark pinkish red.......

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The cinnamon hoya on the porch is starting to bloom. She will be covered with all these small blooms that smell good. Amy............this is part of your trade.........so take a look...........

Brenda I just love that Roulette Azur! Is it really blue? Everybody says it is, but "blue" always turns out to be some shade of purple. Please tell me it's really truly blue! LOL

Gail, I want a Tattoo!! LOL That's gorgeous!

Syrumani, I agree with Brenda (and I haven't made it all the way through the thread, so you may already have it figured out) that's Strep 'Bristol's Party Boy'. Here's mine. What do you think? It's got all the right colors for 'BPB'.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Lin, your Chirita tamiana is adorable! And I love the angel behind it. My daughter has a few of those and I have a plaque with a family on it. Such a beautiful collection of angels!

av_ocd_girl, Yukako is probably the only AV that I would willingly accept into my home! LOL I simply adore green and purple together!

Brenda I do the same thing about picking out my favorite, and Nancy, Shenandoah Strawberry is my favorite of the ones you posted! Gorgeous flower!

Gail, you sure look organized there with those boxes all lined up so neatly! I make a way bigger mess than that when I pack, so you're doing great!

I love that Hoya and can't wait to get it! I've heard it smells really great and am so anxious to find out! LOL

I received a box from Nancy on Saturday. Actually three boxes, but who's counting? LOL Anyway, they were filled with the Streps I bought from her on the Marketplace and I have never been so thrilled with purchased plants in all my life!! They filled an entire shelf of my stand! Look how big they are! Chorus Girl is absolutely gigantic and in full bloom! Thank you so very much, Nancy! And don't be dmailing Gail any secrets! If you're gonna spill the beans about how you grow them so big and lush, post it for me to see, too! ^_^

Thumbnail by RainGazer

I was so excited to post the picture, I forgot to say, what you can't see in the picture is that most of the ones that don't have flowers are filled with buds! Nancy, I'd rather buy from you any day of the week than any of the vendors that are out there!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Isn't that the truth, Rain., I ordered 13 streps from Lyndon Lyon and I admit I told him I would take small plants to get what I wanted. Raspberry Truffles died she was so small and wilted. Nancy sent me a giant one.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Don't listen to Gail and Amy everyone..LOL...they are both sooo much better growers than I could ever hope to be...thanks for the compliment tho : )

South, TX

We had a nice visit at the meeting Gail. Everyone hopes you start to get better soon.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Tell me what you all did, SAlly! Dying to know. Thanks

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Awesome streps your offering Nancy, beautiful plants!!

Love that Rose of Sharon! Do you think they would be hardy enough for Idaho, say a 4A zone (we've been warmer lately) I'll have to research it I guess....

Amy I agree, each plant that people rave about being blue really just looks purple in my eyes! Deep purple with maybe a hint of blue in it but still purple in the end. ^_^

Examples here are Roulette Azur with it's two new blooms and a strep called Blue Network .... beautiful but NOT blue in my eyes .... LOL

So what's up with Bonnie and Clyde here??? I posted a picture last month of her pretty bloom here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5382713

I ended up with two blooms as they should be, with the pink at the top and the yellow throat etc. Where you see the purple tissue 'envelopes" is where seed pods from those two blooms formed ........

.........but now it has opened a new bloom and it's not even close to what the first two looked like. No pink .... so is this maybe a parent, am I seeing Bonnie or am I seeing Clyde???

Gail, it was nice to see everyone. We had our meeting, then ate our snacks and Marjorie pulled some violets and streps apart and made plants and gave them away. I think there were 11 of us.

(Zone 1)

Stunning Strep's, Brenda! I really love that Shenandoah Sweet Talk, the color is great! And, Sinningia Rex ... Wow!

Great Growing!

(Zone 1)

Some of you remember Starfly/Eunice. I d-mailed to see if she was still around and she answered. She had been on the computer talk forum to ask a question about using a flash drive, but does not get on DG much anymore. She said she has been diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and her husband Kerry has a lot of health problems too and he is not doing well. She wanted me to tell all you ladies hi.

Keeping Starfly and her DH in my prayers.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Lin thanks for the update on Eunice..such a wonderful sweet lady..she certainly has had her share of bad in her life..definitely sending prayers for her and kerry!

Brenda I am loving those blooms!! yep azur is definitely more of a purple color to me too..sometimes if the light hits the bloom just right I catch a hint of blue..lol..not too often tho : ( That bonnie and clyde bloom is certainly different..kinda cool..ohh I am waiting ever so impatiently for blooms on my guttata from Jan..keep checking it every day : 0

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

These pictures are outstanding and such a lift for the morning. Quite the grower Brenda is! Sinningia guttata and Sinningia Rex are two of my very favorites.

If someone ever does come up with a truly blue flower that will be something! LOL

Gail are you ready to head out yet? Be careful!!

This is the second go round of blooms on Ruffled Pink and they have gotten prettier and more detailed...

It took me six months to get a baby to come up on a "Pet" Momo leaf, an I only got one baby.

But look at the baby now, she's in a 1 1/2 inch pot with maybe a dozen little leaves and she's sending up a bloom stalk! Makes me smile!

Strep Country Girl, the blooms come in a darker pink and then fade to the lightest of pinks, leaving a pretty variety ....

I love that little Petrocosmea Momo! I had only one Pet (Barbata) and it wasn't very pretty at all and just didn't seem to grow or do well for me in the 1 1/2 years I had it. I traded it to RainGazer but don't remember if it survived for her ... she is such a great grower she may have 50 of the P. Barbata by now, LOL. Momo is a lot prettier with those fuzzy looking little leaves and I remember Rain posting a picture of hers blooming ... very pretty little flower too!

I love seeing all the Beautiful Strep photo's!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I am jealous Nancy, those all look awesome ...... but I have my own box coming from Gail soon so I won't be too jealous for long! LOL

Nancy you know those little Chirita babies that Kim sent to us? The ones in the little one ounce size cups when they came, so cute and tiny?? They had a mighty good start with her ..... check out chirita Moonlight a few eeks later and with only 8 leaves and she's starting to form some blooms!!!

Isn't Miss Kim just the sweetest gal? She shared Chirita's with me also.

Dreamtime has gotten pretty big quickly. I repotted it recently after finding one of the cat's grazing away! She had chewed some of the leaves completely off .... Arrgh! You'd a thunk she could have saved part of them for me to root but nope, she thought she had her very own Chirita Salad Bar ... Bad Kitty! I have now moved the Chirita's to a higher shelf!

Left to right: Dreamtime, Hisako, Diane Marie and Silver Surfer. I love them to pieces!
