I'll have to admit that my musings run the gamut while I garden by myself (which is all the time, since my DH plays on-line war games indoors while I do all the work/play). I want to write a book someday, so at times I plot scenes. At other times, I run my "gardening to-do list" through my head. But probably most of the time I seem to mull over problems (a brother who has cancer, my and DH's heart problems, or some child at school (I'm a teacher) who needs help. I wish I didn't think of the problems when doing my favorite thing, but then I guess that's why I love weeding...almost like pulling out the "problems" and throwing them away! :-)
Anyone like to share what you think about?
A Penny(wort) for your thoughts while gardening !?
Sorry to hear of your problems Connie and hope you and your DH's conditions improve.
Personally the garden is an escape for me in itself. I'm not too good at multi-tasking and am getting worse at as I get older LOL so I tend to concentrate totally on what I'm doing - even pulling weeds. I also tend to look around and see how I can improve waste or unused spaces, what needs removing, clearing away or how to turn the entire mess into a complete paradise.
Not that I don't have a few fantasies. One of my favorites is that Kew Garden rings me up and says, "Hey Rosie, we have this huge Victorian glass house we're not doing anything with - want it? What not enough space? That's not a problem. We'll buy a couple of acres for you and even erect it too. Please take it off our hands."
Ah well, you've got to dream haven't you?
BTW when I'm writing the novel I'm totally fixated on that too!
:-)) Rosie
Most of the time I'm just thinking about what I'm doing and about all the things I want to do in the gardens. My mind goes ninety to nothin' with ideas.

I know dancy - pity I have to ask pemission to put my ideas into practice but it's my Sils garden. Soon I'll have my own though :-)) Rosie
Oh, Rosie...I know what you mean. I used to garden at my boyfriend's ranch house when I lived in an apartment and just had a couple of pots on the balcony! My garden at his place had been started by someone else and was already fenced and had rabbit wire around the bottom. I weeded, planted, brought in gravel for paths, weeded, etc. I loved it but it still wasn't REALLY mine!
Connie sometimes I am like you. If there are troubling things on my mind I think about them when I am gardening. Sometimes it enables me to think of solutions to some of my problems. Other times I am planning what I am going to plant there and so forth. It really depends on what kind of mood I am in when I go out to garden. Most of the time I just listen to nature but if it is one of those troubling times and I don't want to think about that, I will bring my portable radio outside and serenade the wildlife with my singing. I'm sure the wildlife prefers the days that I am happy. LOL
Amber, I like your idea of a radio outside! I'm going to do that next time I have a 4-hour weeding marathon!!! Thanks for the idea...simple but amazing!~
I talk to the good Lord when I garden. It helps solve many a problem.
I need some music outside also. Used to turn my car stereo on and open the doors, but always worried about the battery getting weak. There's not another house for a mile in either direction except for one across the road. The teenage boy who lives there turns on his heavy metal, Metallica cds and blares the music while he's in dad's workshop. "Master, Master just call my name, cause I'll hear you
scream. . . " and other soothing lyrics. YIKES!
I need an iPod!
