This bug was munching on my Gladiolas this weekend. I was weeding around them and as I brushed up against it - it stung me. It burned like crazy for about an hour and felt alot like a bee sting. Does anyone have any idea what this bug is? I have never seen it before.
Bug ID?
Looks like saddleback moth to me http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1485/ They sting!
Very good!!! You are exactly right! That is it. Thanks
I wonder if it actually stung me or it was something else then?
They do sting, so I'd say it was probably one of them that got you. From reading the comments in the Bug Files entry it sounds like some people have had much worse experiences with their sting than you did, so I guess you were lucky!
Never seen them in my life before but sure love the little jacket they look like they are wearing, it just goes to show, some things that look cute have a sting in there tail or where ever, hope you managed to get something to cool the sting down, sounds frightening. WeeNel.
