I was thinking about possibly growing artichokes? Has anyone grown them and had any success with them? I live in NW Florida and not really sure if it would be the right climate and conditions for it?

Anyone grown artichokes before?
i have but my plant died cause my brother & my cousin peed on it. so when it came time to pick the chokes they smelled really bad.in the begining i had lots of chokes . they did good in california i did it in a pot
angel: Well, I ordered 4 plants (2 yr old ones) from Calif, the green globe ones, and only one has survived so far. Still no artichokes.

I was told they grow in my part of Florida; but, they are not doing all that well.

With so many plants it's soil type, (on the ph scale), hours of sun, and NPK. I've thought about growing them so if they're successful there they should be in SE LA also. Here's an example- we have a gardenia in a five gallon pot but used normal potting soil plus some compost-bought it last spring and it had buds that all fell off. It's in bloom now but could be doing better if it was in the ground and if we treated the soil to make it more acidic and higher in nitrogen. I really don't know about growing artichoke but I do love their taste. Nomore: those were great photos. Very beautiful and tasty looking. It's easy to look up online the basic info on any plant...in LA we have pretty good guide on the LSU Ag web site, I would think there is something similar in FL.
